JOB DESCRIPTION

As part of our commitment to safety, on larger projects, Butler-Cohen utilizes Site Safety Officers to assist with the duties of the Site Safety Manager as instructed and to ensure adequate safety coverage for the personnel and activities involved with the project. In addition, this position may man doors and barricades to prevent unauthorized access to active work areas. They may monitor lift, excavation, or overhead work ensuring personnel remain clear and that appropriate barricades, restraints, or other controls are in place. Safety Officers will fill other duties as directed by the Safety Manager as required for the safe execution of our work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with Safety Leadership
  • Conduct daily environmental and safety audits
  • Inspect and examine all health and safety related complaints, workplace accidents, outbreaks of diseases, the spill of hazardous toxins or poison
  • Search for physical, biological, and chemical workplace hazards
  • Investigate the construction site to ascertain equipment, production, and material processes do not pose a safety or health hazard to employees, work guests, and the general public
  • Implement health and safety programs and strategies
  • Write daily safety and health reports or injury logs and ensure they are completed and submitted to relevant government agencies
  • Train and advise relevant stakeholders on of workplace safety and environmental protection
  • Creating different frameworks that will reduce accidents and improve workplace safety
  • Verify the adequacy and safety of all work proposed tools and equipment
  • Review all subcontractors’ safety plans, advise Safety manager on approval process
  • Train and run drills and exercise with workers on how to manage emergency situations

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience Required:

  • 2-year Associate of Arts Degree or an Associate Technical Degree
  • 1 to 3 years safety experience and/or training in an industrial/distribution environment
  • OSHA 10 and 30-hour certification and OSHA OTI Certification are added advantage
  • OSHA General Industry Certification: CPR and First Aid Certifications required
  • Must be working toward Certified Safety Professional or Certified Industrial Hygienist
  • Awareness of OSHA regulations, hazard identification and corrections, environmental regulations
  • Must communicate effectively, generate professionally written material, and deliver effective verbal presentations.

Competencies/Skills/Abilities Required:

  • Adept at Microsoft Office and safety related electronic platforms for reporting and tracking.
  • Excellently oral and written communication skills
  • Strong listening skills to be able to get valuable information from employees
  • Good organizational and record-keeping abilities
  • Ability to climb heights using ladders or scaffolding to access and evaluate work at height
  • Understanding of company project work to inform design and implementation effective safety solutions
  • Good team player, Self-confident, motivated, and independent individual
  • Bilingual required (English – Spanish)

Working Conditions:

  • May require extensive travel by vehicle.
  • Significant work at construction job sites, during all stages, in all types of weather conditions.
  • Must be able to perform activities requiring the use of arms and legs, including climbing ladders/scaffolding, lifting & handling materials, walking & balancing, and stooping.
  • Must be able to speak & hear detailed information through oral communication.
  • Must be able to see clearly and recognize small details.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on computers.
  • Work is performed in an active construction site.
