Will be responsible for ensuring the Test Lab and CMM work is performed in an acceptable manner within requirements of established procedures. Perform CMM function in the areas of testing for incoming materials/chemicals. Validation/verification of design tests on new and/or modified products. Operating the CMM(s), Gage and Fixture Calibration program, and the Calibration system, assist the Quality Department in the daily production requirements for the CMM, work with the Quality Manager, Supervisor in all methods and procedures to ensure conformity to customer specific.
Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled Quality Lab Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for programming, maintaining, and operating CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine), Contracer, and Surfcom machines. This role involves ensuring precision and accuracy in our manufacturing processes through meticulous inspection and calibration techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
- Write and maintain programs for Brown & Sharpe CMMs running PCDMIS software, Contracer Mitutoyo C4000 running Fomtracepak V5, and Surfcom 1500 SD3 running Acctee.
- Develop and execute gage calibration programs.
- Perform annual customer product layouts.
- Conduct part layouts including production first piece, engineering samples, PPAP samples, prototypes, and product studies.
- Perform capability studies to ensure process capability.
- Conduct MSA (Measurement System Analysis) and statistical evaluations of process and product data.
- Develop part dimensional inspection programs for CMM machines for current and new products, and maintain and update DIS programs.
- Maintain CMM programs through regular maintenance, debugging, and updating of program documentation.
- Train operators on CMM setup and operation procedures.
- Create CMM programs for all new launch programs.
- Update CMM programs in response to engineering changes.
- Maintain Gage Pack.
- Collaborate with Engineering on testing, dimensional inspection, and studies as required.
- Ensure adherence to company policies and standards including IATF 16949, ISO14001 (EMS), and Employee Handbook.
- Manage multiple projects and deliverables while fostering a respectful team environment in alignment with Magna Employee’s Charter and Core Values.
- Operate in compliance with MIOSHA regulations and MPTSH safety policies, including proper use of PPE and Lockout/Tagout procedures. Report any unsafe conditions to the Manager or Supervisor.
- Support division and department improvement initiatives through Continuous Improvement Suggestion Program and knowledge sharing with colleagues.
- Adhere to all division and departmental policies, procedures, and work instructions relevant to the position.
- Comply with ISO 14001 responsibilities related to effective environmental management according to MPT’s EMS.
- Associate degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering Technology or related field preferred.
- Proven experience in dimensional metrology and operating CMM, Contracer, and Surfcom machines.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as PCDMIS, Fomtracepak V5, and Acctee.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
