Working onsite within the Engineering Department; reporting to the Engineering Manager, This individual must be able to quickly create work instructions/travelers and routings with clearly defined process steps, identify tooling needs, provide training where necessary, and create inspection criteria documents involving Quality Assurance. Must be organized and able to read and understand engineering drawings, parts lists, pick lists, etc. Must have a good knowledge of lean manufacturing processes and techniques and must have a good understanding of what tasks are required to complete various manufacturing activities. Must be proficient in Solidworks and CAD. Must be able to locate and update drawings and assemblies in EPDM (Enterprise Product Data Management). Must be able to archive/release completed documents back into EPDM vault. The individual must be capable of managing Engineering Change Orders/Requests (ECO/ECR) using an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system. Ability to notify and work successfully with Engineering and others to resolve issues effectively and timely. Must be able to perform and create DFM reports on electronic assemblies and mechanical assemblies. US citizenship is required. May be asked to support 3D printer activities.


Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing Engineering Change Orders/Requests (ECO/ECR).
  • Responsible for Admin of EPDM (Enterprise Product Data Management) vault including archiving and releasing documents
  • Printing 3D models with 3D printer as well as coordinating printer maintenance and supply management.
  • Updating and making changes to ITAR documents and drawings
  • Responsible to perform and create DFM reports on circuit board and assembled products and provide feedback during the development stage in order to eliminate assembly issues, reduce cost, and assembly times as well as reduce issues in the production environment while optimizing quality.
  • Responsible for creating work instructions, routings/travelers, and supporting procedures.
  • Ensures proper tooling and methods are being applied for each process application.
  • Analyzes new and existing products and suggests improvements for manufacturability.
  • Estimates, verifies and maintains manufacturing costs, routings, and time standards.
  • Provides training related to new procedures and guidelines to production staff.
  • May construct or assist in the construction of test or assembly fixtures/jigs and Bills of Materials.
  • Utilizes a variety of software, i.e. AutoCAD, SolidWorks, VISIO, Microsoft Office Suite, PaintShop, etc. in documenting product manufacturing methods.
  • May be responsible for developing and implementing all standard product-packaging requirements to meet ISTA standards.
  • Manages the technical follow-up and participates actively in all new product introduction, existing product transfers, and manufacturing qualification activities in order to ensure a smooth information exchange. May be required to confirm the technical capability of the manufacturing sites, to detect, document, and make the appropriate recommendations in order to correct in concert with the contract manufacturers, development engineering, and all other concerned company departments, all issues that reduce or can potentially affect the manufacturing yields, product’s quality and increase related costs.
  • Supports production contract manufacturers as well as KAI (Kontron America) production for the above activities, in a proactive quality management fashion, including traveling domestically and in foreign countries (including evening phone calls).
  • Effectively manages and follows up corrective actions/non-conformity reports with service, component and final product suppliers, in order to continuously improve our partners and the business processes.
  • Collaborates with the other departments, contract manufacturers, and suppliers in order to improve the product's quality before, during, and after the production cycle.
  • Participates actively with the Operations and Quality departments in the evaluation and qualification of new manufacturing sites and critical component suppliers as well as in the follow-up of their ongoing performance within the company norms and standards.
  • Manages the training and qualification process for Production and Quality Control employees for new processes, assembly methods, and manufacturing standards as well as for the operation of production and inspection equipment.


Qualifications:

  • Manufacturing Engineer will have a BS degree in an engineering-related field or 8+ years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer.
  • Must have experience with production and manufacturing models, Lean Manufacturing, 5-S, Kaizen, Kanban, and others.
  • Must have strong Solidworks and AutoCAD skills and be able to update ITAR documents and drawings.
  • Must have experience with Solidworks EPDM archiving and releasing.
  • Must have the ability to create DFM reports for circuit boards and mechanical assemblies.
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SolidWorks, VISIO, Paint, etc.
  • Must be able to create product work instructions, production checklists, routings and travelers.
  • ISO9001 experience is desirable.
  • Excellent understanding of ERP systems, experience in SAP a Plus.
  • Knowledge of FAA requirements a Plus.
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Capable of efficiently integrating existing methods with new innovations to economically solve production problems in a timely manner.
  • Ability to read and understand drawings, schematics, and procedures.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, handle multiple projects, and meet deadlines
