Director of Financial Operations

POSITION SUMMARY

Has responsibility for finance functions of the agency, including the application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting & Auditing Standards (GAAS). Provides overall supervision, guidance, and development of the Finance team. Provides corporate leadership by maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant business and technological trends. Develops and implements appropriate best practices for cash management, treasury, banking, financial reporting, reconciliation, and budgeting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Oversees day-to-day financial operations. Provides direction and supervision to the staff on the Finance team, including the completion of timely performance appraisals. Assures that the finance function complies with applicable standards, seeking external consultation as needed.

  2. Leads the development of the annual operating budget, and the annual capital expenditure budget, to ultimately obtain a Board-approved budget. Presents and interprets the budget to the Executive Team and to the Board of Directors.

  3. Monitors the ongoing status of the organization's finances, including monthly variances compared to the budget. Analyzes financial status and completes monthly financial cash flow projections.

  4. Ensures timely and accurate financial reporting for board meetings. Develops a format that is clear and concise in order to assure that the board is fully informed about financial matters.

  5. Monitors and ensures a system of balance sheet reconciliations that is supported by appropriate documentation of accurate, and reasonable balances.

  6. Maintains all agency revenue and vendor contracts and leases. Maintains a tracking system of all contracts to monitor financial liability, termination clauses, and expiration dates. Advises appropriate staff of pending expiration dates.

  7. Maintains the agency financial policy manual, and recommends updates and changes as needed. Enforces proper internal controls.

  8. Leads finance-related strategic initiatives and action plans. Assists in the development and implementation of the agency's strategic plan.

  9. Continually strive to improve departmental functions, create efficiencies, find solutions, and be visionary in the future of not-for-profit accounting technologies and trends.

SKILLS and ABILITIES

  1. Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics GP accounting system, and other accounting programs as necessary.

  2. Highly skilled in the use of all Microsoft Office programs.

  3. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the capacity to compose professionally written correspondence.

  4. Ability to think on an analytical level and to interpret financial reporting

  5. Must possess mathematical skills

  6. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills and capacity to motivate and inspire staff at all levels of the organization

  7. The ability to direct services in a manner that reflects an appreciation for the cultural background, heritage, and identity of clients.

  8. Ability to exercise good judgment, courtesy, and tact in dealing with the public, in giving and obtaining information, and in making proper disposition of problems as they may arise.

  9. Organizational and time management skills


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  1. B.S. Degree in Business Administration, Accounting or related field is required, Masters-level preferred

  2. At least 5 years of financial management experience.


CARE & Therapeutic Crisis Intervention ("TCI") training

One of the essential job functions of any position within the agency is to align your performance with our overarching philosophy of CARE. All decisions, actions, communication, and performance should align with the six CARE principles (Developmentally Focused, Family Involved, Relationship-Based, Ecologically Oriented, Competence Centered, and Trauma-Informed). Not only must you complete the CARE training with satisfactory participation, but you must then put that training into practice in your everyday work.

Every employee must also pass TCI training with a satisfactory grade in written and/or physical testing. All employees must remain current on refresher training that is provided monthly at all locations. You will be tested every 6 months on the physical portion, if applicable to your position. You will be tested annually on the written portion regardless of your position. If you are not current on your TCI refresher training every six months, you will be required to retake the full course. If you do not pass either test, you may be required to retake the full course. Not only must you complete the TCI training with satisfactory participation, but you must then put that training into practice in your everyday work.
