Position Title: Medical Assistant (MA) FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Practice Manager
Directly Supervises: N/A
Purpose of Position:
Assists medical practitioners by providing technical and administrative support to enhance quality patient care.
All employees at the Anchorage & Valley Radiation Therapy Centers are expected to comply with the mission, values, policies and procedures and perform their duties to the best of their ability. The essential functions listed below are not intended to be all-inclusive of a position’s responsibilities; all employees should expect to perform “other duties as assigned.”
Essential Functions:
• Manage daily physician schedule.
• Room new patients, follow-up patients, and re-evaluation patients.
• Prepare and room patients who are actively being treated and present for weekly visits with the physician.
• Obtain all medical records and images relevant to the purpose of the visit. This includes obtaining and loading Images from scans so that physicians can review prior to the appointment.
• Chart rounds attendance.
• Monitor for incoming test results and studies
• Schedule and coordinate special procedures
• Set up and disinfect scope
• Assist with procedure and examinations
• Order supplies and stock exam rooms to ensure adequate inventory is available for each patient visit.
• Assign ICD-10 code to patient chart for new patients, re-evals, and follow-ups.
• Load prescriptions electronically for physician review; this would include refills and prior authorizations for medications.
• Fill out necessary forms and documentation for patients such as FMLA, disability, and DMV forms as able.
• Perform all other tasks and projects as delegated by the department manager
• Patient Education: Treatment, side effects, psych/social awareness, referral to other community services as needed.
• Obtain insurance authorizations for special procedures as needed
Education, Certification and Licensure:
• Current BLS certification.

• Compliance with annual mandatory education.
• Compliance with annual immunization requirements.
Experience:
• No less than two (2) years of working experience as a certified medical assistant, medical assistant or similar.

Technical Competencies:
• Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography and transcription, , and other office procedures and terminology.
• Fluid navigation of Mosaiq or Center EMR
• Fluid navigation of MIM for image maintenance
• Acquire access and maintain currency with outside EMRs for obtaining records, imaging, etc.
• Master proficiency in all current and future business applications necessary to perform all required job functions.

Work Environment:
• Exposure to odorous chemicals and specimens.
• Occasional travel between centers and within the city is required.
• Frequent contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances.
• May be exposed to blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
Physical Requirements:
• Work requires the ability to lift or push up to fifty (50) pounds.
• Work requires long periods of standing and is subject to many interruptions.
• Work requires the employee to push, pull or lift objects and/or patients aided or unaided.
