Department: Municipal Court

Reports to: Senior Municipal Court Supervisor

Summary: Under basic supervision, provides a variety of administrative, customer service, and courtroom support functions for the Municipal Court; processes legal documents, applies complex court processes in furtherance of case-flow management, reviews and enters data on secure databases, reviews and prepares warrants for judicial signatures; enters and maintains cases entered in State-maintained databases for case non-compliance, and assists clients of the court.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assists Court clients and performs a variety of customer service duties within scope of authority and training.
  • Follows court policies and procedures for specific Court duties; receives and processes documents, updates data on secure databases.
  • Reviews cases to verify clients are meeting court-ordered requirements; prepares courtroom docket sheets prior to scheduled court dockets.
  • Performs complex court processes, in conjunction with assisting the judiciary with docket and case management, in a courtroom environment.
  • Prepares warrants for judicial signature; creates non-appearance cases; enters and maintains non-compliant cases in State-maintained databases; prepares reporting for non-compliance.
  • Performs complex court processes applicable to case-flow management; performs duties in compliance with court administrative orders, judicial standing orders, regulations, and standards; duties may vary according to job assignment.
  • Maintains the absolute confidentiality of all records and information.
  • Supports departmental operations with regular and timely attendance.
  • Supports the relationship between the City of Odessa and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:

  • Associate degree preferred, preferably in a legal or criminal justice discipline.
  • 2 years of experience as a court clerk.
  • 3 years of customer service and computer experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • License and certification requirements:
    • A valid Texas State Driver's License is required.
    • Level I Municipal Court Clerk certification required.

Physical demands and working environments: Work is performed in standard office and courtroom environments. Travel up to 3 overnight training seminars each year. Some weekend and early evening work may be required.
