Construction Estimator

About the Job

The Construction Estimator's major role is to produce accurate bid proposals and scope assessments for possible construction projects. Additional tasks include bid review, project management, and material procurement. Prepare pricing estimates for new projects and modification orders for current contracts. Use solid judgment and expertise while dealing with purchasing, concrete labor, equipment, and transportation expenses to get at a thorough cost estimate with suitable profit margins to meet the Company's objectives. Ultimately, your role will be to use your expertise to generate new revenue for the organization.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Establishes and maintains connections with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Read and comprehend the bid requirements, precise specifications, and create a "take off" of supplies included in the task.
  • Review proposals, specifications, drawings, and pre-bid meetings to establish scope of work and quantity take-offs.
  • Incorporates safety into the means and techniques decision-making throughout the estimation process.
  • Develops and maintains connections with owners and general contractors.
  • Responsible for the buyout process with Project Manager.
  • Estimate all labor, materials, buyout items, and equipment expenses (including crane charges) to provide a comprehensive pricing estimate.

Requirements:

  • The ability to read and understand technical and legal materials.
  • At least 5 years' experience estimating successful big commercial self-perform concrete projects.
  • Must have expertise and experience with cast-in-place concrete construction, concrete footings, and foundations.
  • Knowledge of construction vocabulary, as well as proficiency with computer and estimating applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills while dealing with contractors, suppliers, buying, sales, and others.
  • Knowledge of related structural goods, such as joists, decks, stairs, rails, and anchor rods.
  • Ability to create a scope of work with all necessary details, including inclusions, exclusions, and qualifications.
  • Experience with Microsoft software (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook) and B2W software is advantageous.
  • Successful internships or project engineering experience are beneficial.
  • Highly enterprising and self-motivated, with the ability to operate both independently and in a team context.
  • Creative, results-oriented, with a strong sense of urgency.
