Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure that the outreach vehicle is stocked with adequate supplies for the day’s locations and services.
- Ensure that the outreach vehicle systems, fluids, pressures, and parts are inspected and monitored for appropriate function and maintenance services are completed promptly to ensure continuous safe operation.
- Request and ensure access to items that community outreach recipients request within reason. Staff special requests with Program Manager to ensure appropriateness and funding.
- Work with the Program Manager to establish daily routes and regular rotation of coverage for outreach locations.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and standards.
Outreach and Engagement:
- Build relationships with people experiencing homelessness with the goal of understanding their needs and aiding to provide needed items.
- Provide information and connections to services and resources accompanied by knowledge of local providers to aid in establishing services for people in need.
- Foster a welcoming, supportive, non-judgmental environment with dignity and respect during all outreach activities.
- Share lived experiences and personal trials when appropriate to encourage connection and acceptance of support from people receiving outreach services.
Data Management and Reporting:
- Work with the Program Manager to develop and implement data tracking and documentation of all services and supports being provided.
- Utilize the Needs Form spreadsheet to request season appropriate items needed for program distribution.
- Prepare and submit regular reports documenting program activities and outcomes.
- Utilize the HMIS system accurately and effectively to track participants and ensure that all HMIS data is current and accurate.
- Complete housing eligibility evaluation when appropriate and needed.
- Participate in housing staffings when appropriate to represent clients whose cases are not otherwise represented.
Collaboration and Networking:
- Establish relationships with local shelters, behavioral health treatment providers, and homeless service programs to ensure warm transfer of people engaging in services with our support.
- Represent Saint Vincent de Paul when working with local business owners and residents.
- Establish connections with other homeless service providers and communicate opportunities to create new service locations for outreach to the Program Manager for scheduling.
- Participate in community organization meetings and events to promote outreach and share knowledge and information regarding SVdP and other community programs.
- Ensure that the Program Manager is aware of community organization meetings and events to ensure representation from outreach when needed.
Volunteer Experience:
- Use volunteer time as an opportunity to educate regarding Saint Vincent de Paul’s mission, values, priorities, and needs.
- Train volunteers to assist in preparation, distribution of items, and connection and referral for services.
- Always welcome volunteers, include them in the mission and work being done, ensure that they know their value, and ask when they will return to support the program again or bring others to have the experiences.
Requirements:
Valid Arizona Driver’s License with clean 39-month Motor Vehicle Record. If driving record information changes, manager notification is required. Current Food Handler’s Certification is required as distribution and service of food and beverage items is required daily for this role. Experience working with people experiencing homelessness beneficial. Lived experience as a recipient of homeless services is beneficial and preferred. Spanish speaking, reading, and writing is beneficial. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision is preferred. Excellent communication with recipients, teammates, volunteers, community stakeholders, other SVdP departments, and leadership is necessary in this role.
ADA Requirements:
Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods up to 8 hours per work day. Must be able to bend, stoop, stretch, and reach. Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds regularly.
Working Conditions:
This position may involve standing for extended periods, lifting and carrying items, and working with a diverse group of clients. This role involves working in varying locations and conditions to include places not meant for human habitation and locations where people have established encampments.
