Reporting to the Director of Education the Job Title of Jacksonville Arts and Music School (JAMS) will be a passionate advocate of arts education and leadership training for youth. The JAMS Job Title will implement the mission of “Empowering the creative leaders of tomorrow”, by establishing trust, cultivating creativity, and leading development of leadership skills among students and staff daily.
Responsibilities
Establish Trust
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with students, parents, and DCPS staff.
- Conduct monthly check-ins with students not meeting academic benchmarks to foster a supportive environment.
- Develop and implement recovery and retention plans for students at risk of failing, ensuring they remain on track for graduation.
- Facilitate ongoing communication with parents, keeping them informed of their child's progress and available resources.
- Work closely with DCPS counselors and administrators to align student progress with DCPS graduation requirements
Cultivate Creativity
- Set clear benchmarks for 9th-12th grade students aimed at achieving graduation and college/career readiness.
- Monitor student progress toward meeting DCPS graduation requirements, identifying and addressing any barriers to success.
- Assist seniors in completing college applications, including the Common App, and provide guidance on writing personal statements and resumes.
- Ensure all seniors complete FAFSA financial aid paperwork and have access to information on available scholarships.
- Maintain an up-to-date list of scholarships and financial aid opportunities, disseminating this information to students and parents.
Develop Leadership
- Lead a culture of excellence, respect, integrity, and teamwork within the JAMS afterschool program.
- Empower students by providing resources and guidance that promote academic and personal growth.
- Encourage students to take ownership of their education by setting personal goals and tracking their progress.
- Assist with quarterly evaluations of student performance, providing feedback to both students and staff to foster continuous improvement.
- Work with JAMS staff to ensure the afterschool program aligns with DCPS policies and student needs.
