Position: Database Administrator

Location: Bethesda, MD (Onsite)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supports the mission-critical database applications both on-premises and on Amazon RDS, keeping the databases highly available and scalable.
  • Manage and support large-scale multi-terabyte databases.
  • Install and configure databases in development, QA, and production - Oracle 19c and MySQL 8 running on on-premises Linux platforms and MySQL 8 and PostgreSQL 16 databases hosted on Amazon RDS.
  • Maintain the integrity, security, and availability of databases.
  • Perform database server performance tuning, storage capacity management, and backup and recovery.
  • Perform data replication using Oracle Data Guard and MySQL replication.
  • Review, design, and develop data models.
  • Evaluate and recommend database management system products and tools.
  • Apply database security patches.
  • Harden Oracle and MySQL databases IAW evolving government security recommended procedures and practices.
  • Automate database administration and maintenance activities.

Skills & Qualification:

  • Minimum 7 years of experience with Oracle RAC, MySQL, Oracle PL/SQL, PostgreSQL, and Amazon RDS administration including installations and configurations.
  • Detailed understanding of relational database concepts.
  • Experience in a 24x7 production environment.
  • General understanding of the Linux operating system, security concepts, storage technologies, and networking.
  • Experience with database performance tuning.
  • Experience with database backup and recovery.
  • Demonstrated experience in engineering performance and availability of solutions.
  • Demonstrated in taking initiative and managing problems independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and collaborate with diverse groups of people in various teams to address database application issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Working knowledge of at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, Bash, Ruby).
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Education Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.

Certifications:

  • Any certification from Certified Oracle Database Administrator, MySQL Certified Database Administrator, AWS certified data analyst etc.
