Job Summary:

Conduct CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) / FEA (Finite Element Analysis) of new product CAD designs and tooling to verify functionality, quality, and production targets prior to prototype builds. Conduct design studies interactively with CAE to address functionality issues so identified. Investigate new CAE methodologies to provide enhanced analysis capabilities.

Duties/Responsibilities

Requires sophisticated skills to understand, influence, drive, and negotiate with internal and external customers. The ability to explain the implications of engineering work. Trains and empowers others.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Significant experience with linear and nonlinear FEA codes
  • Ability to chase down CAE methodology issues and draw relationships with production.
  • Solid understanding of plastics and preferably of injection, blow molding, and thermoforming processes
  • Background in solid mechanics, heat transfer, material science alternatives.
  • Work with engineers and customers to develop functional product designs.
  • Conduct linear and nonlinear FEA/CAE analysis to simulate and predict design performance to guide the overall product development effort.
  • Develop new CAE and mathematical analysis methodologies to support future product development needs.
  • Correlate/prove CAE methodologies to empirical results.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to new and casual FEA users.
  • Write technical reports and give presentations.
  • Search out and pioneer new CAE technologies to support future product development needs.
  • Use test equipment to correlate results.
  • Write macro codes to automate functionality.

Education and Experience:

  • Expert in engineering/design principles and relevant systems.
  • Requires 6-8 years of relevant experience plus a bachelor's degree in mechanical/Structural Engineering, M.S. or Ph.D. preferred.
  • 2-5 years' experience in linear/nonlinear ANSYS, Nastran, Abaqus, or Mark
  • SolidWorks and CATIA V5 solid CAD modeling experience or equivalent

Travel requirements.

  • 10 % of time
