About Carrollwood Farms:
Carrollwood Farms is a family estate farm encompassing over 4,000 acres in Stokes and Rockingham Counties, North Carolina. We are dedicated to sustainable agriculture and operate various divisions, including vegetable farming, agronomy, construction, grounds maintenance, and soon, hospitality. We are passionate about giving back to the community, and in 2023, we donated over 2,200 pounds of fresh produce from our gardens.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Vegetable Production Farmer to join our team and play a key role in the continued success of our vegetable gardens. In this exciting role, you'll be responsible for all aspects of vegetable production, from seed germination and cultivation to harvest and post-season care. You'll have the opportunity to contribute to the development of our showcase-worthy gardens and see your hard work used in our future on-farm restaurants.
Responsibilities:
- Manage all aspects of vegetable production in our six-acre, deer-fenced gardens and 3,000 sq. ft. greenhouse.
- Oversee seed germination, cultivation, and harvesting of a variety of crops throughout the season.
- Implement crop rotation strategies for optimal soil health and yield.
- Assist with the removal of spent crops and establishment of cover crops.
- Participate in discussions and receive guidance on management practices from farm ownership and management.
- Maintain meticulous records and data, including planting dates, harvest dates, seeding rates, and other relevant information.
- Operate and maintain a variety of farm equipment, including a small tractor.
- Maintain a high standard of work quality and prioritize safety in all gardening practices.
Qualifications:
- Experience in vegetable production, preferably in a commercial or large-scale setting.
- Proven knowledge and experience with organic and sustainable farming methods, including pest management strategies.
- A passion for growing high-quality produce and a commitment to continuous learning.
- Excellent record-keeping and data management skills.
- Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with the farm team.
- Excellent physical condition with the ability to perform various tasks, including lifting, bending, pulling, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
