ABOUT CARROLLWOOD FARMS

Carrollwood Farms is a family estate farm encompassing over 4,000 acres in Stokes and Rockingham Counties, North Carolina. We are dedicated to sustainable agriculture and operate various divisions, including vegetable farming, agronomy, construction, grounds maintenance, and soon, hospitality. We are passionate about giving back to the community, and in 2023, we donated over 2,200 pounds of fresh produce from our gardens.

Position Overview

We're seeking a highly motivated and experienced farmer to join our dynamic team at Carrollwood Farms a thriving organic farm. In this full-time (or part-time) role, you'll play a key role in the continued success and expansion of our operations, with a focus on sustainable practices and organic certification.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the farming team to implement best practices in all stages of hay and crop production, from planting and maintenance to harvesting, post-harvest care, and sales.
  • Contribute to improving soil health through the use of cover crops and organic methods.
  • Assist in the development of our new beef cattle operation, including initial stocker cattle and future plans for a Wagyu brood cow herd.
  • Ensure the organic integrity of our crops and future beef herd to achieve certified organic status by early 2026.
  • Play a vital role in the planning and development of an on-farm beef processing facility.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in production agriculture, with a proven track record of success in organic or sustainable farming methods preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of row crop production practices and large animal husbandry, particularly cattle.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining a variety of farm equipment, including tractors, spreaders, cultivators, discs, mowers, balers, and harvesting equipment.
  • Experience with grain bin storage and movement is a plus.
  • Ability to manage bovine reproduction, including the potential use of artificial insemination (AI) methods.
  • Highly motivated with a "can-do" attitude and a willingness to tackle a variety of tasks.
  • Excellent time management and project management skills to juggle multiple responsibilities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move up to 75 pounds occasionally and 50 pounds regularly.
  • Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job, including standing, bending, pulling, pushing, climbing, and lifting for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
