Qualifications

BSCE (preferred), or the equivalent work experience of four (4) years in land development and/or public works design.

  • Proficient in mathematical principles and their applications.
  • Possesses knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Possesses knowledge of design techniques, tools and the principles associated with producing precision technical plans, drawings and models.
  • Demonstrates the ability to read and comprehend instructions from business correspondence and memos.
  • Able to effectively present (verbally) information to clients and employees of the company in one-on-one and small group situations as well as write proficient reports and business correspondence.
  • Maintains attention and concentration for necessary periods; applies common sense and carries out instructions (written, oral or diagrammatic); adapts to situations requiring the precise attainment of set limits, tolerances and standards.
  • Able to recognize when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong (recognizing a problem but not necessarily solving the problem).
  • Displays a high standard of professional quality in work product.
  • Possesses knowledge of CAD and file management set-up, and the ability to learn and become familiar with MicroStation or Autocad.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Assists the project manager, project engineer and lead designers to complete projects by setting up and maintaining the file management structure (naming conventions, etc.) according to Corporate Standards, prepare land development and public word designs and site plans, reports and studies using Autocad and/or MicroStation.
  • Helps complete estimates by calculating earthwork and improvement quantities using Civil3D, MicroStation, and InRoads as well as manual calculations.
  • Maintains quality control and ensures checklists conform to company policy by referring to the Rick Engineering Company CAD Standards and Procedures and Quality Control Manuals.
  • Assists in completing projects on time by inputting designs into the computer, performing preliminary research and design for development projects utilizing the basic functions in MicroStation or Autocad and direct drafting of designs when appropriate.
  • Helps to maintain a positive team environment and contributes to keeping the team productive by engaging in on-going written and oral communication with the group
