The Position:

The Director of Tax plays a critical role in leading and managing all aspects of tax strategy, compliance, planning, and reporting for the organization. Responsible for developing and implementing tax strategies aligned with the company's business objectives, optimizing tax efficiency, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Responsibilities include:


  • Lead the preparation of the tax provision and supporting schedules in accordance with ASC 740 standards including financial statement footnote disclosures.
  • Develop and implement tax strategies aligned with the company's overall business objectives to optimize tax efficiency and minimize risk.
  • Conduct comprehensive tax planning, including structuring transactions, acquisitions, and divestitures to achieve favorable tax outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations and reporting requirements at the local, state, and federal levels. Analyze nexus requirements.
  • Compile comprehensive tax workpapers, including state tax apportionment and other necessary schedules for federal, state, and local income tax filings.
  • Oversee and review the preparation of federal, state, and local income and franchise tax returns by outside CPA firm, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Prepare quarterly estimated payments.
  • Actively involved in the preparation of sales and use tax returns, Business & Occupation (B&O) and Commercial Activity Tax (CAT) returns, business license tax returns, and personal property tax renditions.
  • Prepare and oversee a rolling tax calendar.
  • Proactively identify tax planning opportunities and potential risks, offering actionable insights to optimize tax efficiency. Compose tax position and analysis memos.
  • Assess and mitigate tax risks associated with business operations, transactions, and regulatory changes.
  • Collaborate closely with finance, legal, and other departments to ensure alignment of tax strategies with overall business objectives.
  • Coordinate and manage tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities, working closely with external advisors as needed.
  • Provide tax-related guidance to senior management and other stakeholders, ensuring alignment with business strategies and objectives.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for tax-related inquiries and information sharing with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required; MST, MSA, CPA and/or JD certification preferred.
  • Extensive experience in domestic tax, with a minimum of 10 years, preferably in a large corporate environment.
  • Profound understanding of federal and state tax regulations, including ASC 740 standards.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft suite and accounting systems
  • Experience in M&A activities and corporate restructuring is advantageous.
  • Exceptional financial acumen, analytical skills, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a dynamic team environment.
