General Summary
The Rope Access – NCCER Pipefitter is responsible for carrying out standard rope access operations under the direct supervision of an authorized Level 3 rope access supervisor. The Rope Access Pipefitter will use Industrial Rope Access methods and related equipment to access and complete a wide variety of inspection, maintenance and other industrial work tasks while on ropes or in difficult access areas to include erect, install or revise pipe spools and other field piping and associated components per customer specifications and drawings as directed by project management. Must have the ability to perform work that is physically demanding, have good communication skills and the ability to assimilate a large amount of new information. Responsibilities may also include rescue operations, technical reports and administrative tasks. Work hours, locations, shifts and nature of work assignments vary greatly, and travel may be required.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe, secure and healthy environment by adhering to Company/Customer safety standards and practices and to legal regulations, alerting others regarding potential hazards or concerns.
- Install valves, hangars, supports, and flanges inside piping systems according to plans and applicable specifications.
- Rig loads to be hoisted into position using slings, chains, shackles, hooks, cables and other rigging equipment.
- Perform test to ensure the quality of the pipe and the piping systems.
- Remove and or install bolted connections in piping systems.
- Read blueprints and specifications to determine the scope of work; locations, quantities, and sizes of materials required; identify all tools required for tasks.
- Prepare, fabricate, install and fit pipe to specifications.
- Identify safety risks and the precautions required to eliminate those risks; recognize worksite hazards and notify the rope access supervisor of any unsafe conditions.
- Inspects and verifies rope access systems and components before use.
- Follow the Rope Access Supervisor’s or the Rope Access Lead Technician’s directions.
- Displays a healthy respect for heights and follows all OSHA, site specific and IRISNDT safety procedures.
- Participates in required training, rope access certification sessions and maintains a working understanding of rope access safe working practices.
- Works in accordance with IRISNDT's rope access policies and Rope Access Code of Practice.
- Maintain proficiency at rescue techniques and assist in rescues as directed and in accordance with certification level.
- May be required to assist other crafts as directed by project supervision.
- Travel to sites as needed.
Job Qualifications & Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Minimum of four (4) years experience working as an Industrial Pipefitter or Pipefitter Helper in an industrial construction project environment.
- SPRAT or IRATA Level 1, 2, or 3 Certification required.
- NCCER Industrial Pipefitter Certification required.
- Valid TWIC Card required.
- Must be able to read prints and illustrate thorough knowledge of pipe fitting procedures and skills.
- Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment.
- Must possess above average math skills to include working with fractions, reading of tape measure, or other measuring devices.
- Valid Driver's License and pre-access drug & alcohol testing required.
- Pre-employment background checks will be required.
- Must have excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Must have a capacity for work at various heights; capable of understanding and following the terms, conditions, and limitations of all work permits and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
- Ability and willingness to travel if needed is strongly preferred.
Work Conditions
- Field duties require outdoor work in diverse industrial environments with varying weather conditions.
- Interaction with other crew employees, as well as supervisors and client personnel.
- Working in various areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels.
- Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection.
- May be at more than one job site in a day and must be able to tolerate climate changes.
- May be required to travel out of town on a periodic basis.
Physical & Mental Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry 75 pounds.
- Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking and stooping.
- Tasks may also include physically moving and setting up inspection equipment (maximum component weight +/- 50 lbs.).
- Working extended hours and standing for extended periods of time.
- Work in indoor and outdoor environments in conditions of extreme heat and/or cold.
- Work in and near industrial hazards.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in excavations.
- Must be able to walk and climb except when performing non-field duties.
- Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits employee to communicate effectively.
- Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodations to perform office duties and travel when necessary to off-site locations.
- Ability to maintain focus and multitask effectively.
- Exhibits sensible and responsible behavior.
- Must not have any condition that would render the ability or willingness to safely and productively execute assigned duties.
- Must meet SPRAT/IRATA certification requirements.
