Tuition Assistance Officer

Position Scope
Coordinates the distribution of tuition assistance funding to families. Collects and evaluates family requests for tuition assistance through a third-party vendor. Provides information and counseling on tuition assistance resources available. Collaborates with the admissions, enrollment management, and/or the business office to fulfill the school's enrollment management objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities
Collects required documents related to tuition assistance applications in a manner that is consistent, organized, and meets institutional guidelines. Notifies and requests required documentation from parents for file completion and eligibility determination.
Analyzes and evaluates the financial viability of students and families, providing advice and counsel regarding available tuition assistance opportunities, eligibility requirements, and the application process.
Reviews financial documents for accuracy.
Reviews and assesses eligibility of applications for tuition assistance; exercising professional judgment to determine the level, if any, tuition assistance should be extended in collaboration with the school’s Tuition Assistance Committee.
Responds to inquiries; research and resolve problems related to tuition assistance; serving as a liaison with other constituencies in the resolution of day-to-day administrative and operational issues.
Generate tuition assistance awards.
Provides information, in person, on the telephone, and through electronic communication, to prospective students and families regarding tuition assistance, admissions, and registration status in conjunction with the admissions office.
Oversees the collection, management, and reporting of data in accordance with the objectives of the position and other departments; participates in the development and implementation of data management systems and procedures, as appropriate.
Serves as a representative of the department during promotional events.
Participates in committee readings for scholarship selection.
Minimum Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution (Finance or Accounting preferred)
3-5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
Knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, and policies concerning the provision of tuition assistance financial aid to students.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to verify and assess student eligibility for tuition assistance.
Ability to analyze and solve problems.
Ability to make evaluative judgments.
Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions.
Ability to supervise and train employees, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
Organizing and coordinating skills.
Knowledge of tuition assistance policies, procedures, and eligibility requirements.
Knowledge of data management systems and processes.
Knowledge of the policies and eligibility requirements of a range of federal, state, and agency scholarship programs for tertiary students.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The position requires a) Evaluating, approving, and awarding tuition assistance to students in accordance with all laws and regulations; c.) managing the collection and reporting of financial aid data.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
No or very limited physical effort required.
No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
