OPPORTUNITY SUMMARY

BRONX ARTS seeks an Elementary School Dance Teacher responsible for promoting a positive school culture. The Elementary Dance Teacher will work with the students, families and school leadership to ensure that the high expectations we have for our students are maintained in their classroom and use their knowledge of the development of young children, in ways which young children learn. Teachers are expected to support the social, emotional and cognitive development of young children.

Requirements:

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and execute an age-appropriate, sequentially-developed, standards-based, culturally-responsive dance and creative movement curriculum for kindergarten through fifth grade students.
  • Partner with community and cultural organizations in order to help students interact with professionals in the field, make real-world connections and increase awareness of careers in theater arts.
  • Maintain school structures by enforcing school and class rules.
  • Prepare students for many informal and formal school performances.
  • Make meaningful connections through dance in all content areas.
  • Differentiate instruction for students with special needs.
  • Build a warm and inclusive classroom environment, implementing the practices of Responsive Classroom.
  • Create and maintain strong relationships with students and families
  • Actively participate in team meetings, collaborative planning, and professional development, including an annual summer institute.
  • Accept ultimate responsibility for the progress of their students, and work to actively overcome setbacks
  • Committed to anti-racist practices and dismantling white supremacy in the arts classroom
  • Co-direct and produce an elaborate annual school musical
  • Familiar with the National Core Arts Standards

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Dance or Dance Education. Master's degree and NYS Teaching certification preferred.
  • Ability to choreograph, dance, and teach in a variety of styles.
  • The ability to create a classroom environment where students feel safe, supported, and challenged.
  • Passion and commitment to teaching scholars in underserved areas and to closing the achievement gap.
  • Relentless drive to set and achieve ambitious goals.
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills.
  • Growth mindset and ability to use feedback to improve practice.
  • Experience teaching in underserved areas is a plus.
  • At least two years of teaching experience. Full time teaching preferred
