Job Description

Prepares thorough bid proposals for big and complicated projects, including assessing drawings and requirements to create precise cost estimates for materials, equipment, and personnel needed to accomplish the project.

Duties and responsibilities

Review the proposal contract materials and attend pre-bid meetings as needed.

Visit project to fully grasp site logistics, constraints, and circumstances.

Use historical data from bid tabs, past work estimates, FOIA requests, and completed projects to assist prepare the estimate.

Prepare and arrange necessary papers for a thorough and responsive bid submission.

Develop a cost-effective work approach.

Provide a full analysis of estimate components, such as tasks, subtasks, production rates, and expenses.

Evaluate possible value engineering possibilities.

Calculate takeoffs from blueprints to ensure quantity correctness.

Request estimates from material suppliers and possible subcontractors

Collaborate with the Estimating team to identify and assess project risks.

Maintain and grow vendor connections and partnerships, including DBE/VOSB outreach activities.

Collaborate with Operations, Project Managers, and Materials Managers during bidding process to achieve accurate project estimates.

Ensure project management is thoroughly educated on all strategies, opportunities, and risks identified during bidding.

Provide material requirements and information to Quality Control and Manufacturing management.

Review project management's change order requests to ensure they optimize profit opportunities.


Conduct progress and post-construction reviews of planned and actual expenses.

Qualifications

Experience in commercial and public markets, including highways, airports, railroads, streets, and roads, with a concentration on paving

Excellent communication skills, both vocal and written.

Ability to estimate many projects simultaneously.

Demonstrated independence, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.

Strong math skills.

Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.

Strong organizational and time management abilities.

Computer abilities include competency in Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, B2W, HCSS, and Microsoft Project.
