Position Summary

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for assisting with the detailed design of valves, valve components, and related products, inventing and developing new approaches to the mechanical design of Millennium Power products. The position is also responsible for supporting the continuous improvement of company products and reverse engineering processes.

This position uses research and analysis to make data-based decisions to deliver key strategies, objectives, process improvements, and metric alignment that will result in cost reduction, cost avoidance, risk management, and service/quality improvements.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

Design engineering:

Complete designs and plans/specifications and review final designs to ensure compliance with engineering principles, industry and company standards, and customer specifications.

Complete moderately complex mechanical design of valves.

Generate standard, custom, and application-specific analyses of valve products.

Solution provider:

Solve moderately complex manufacturing and supply issues concerning the interpretation of drawings, manufacturing methods, and material requirements, and to identify the root cause.

Partner with sales on moderately complex projects to assist in selecting the appropriate product(s) to meet the customers' needs.

Lead in new product development/current product enhancement:

  • Design and engineer new products, including the preparation of a product plan, channel, pro/con, financial, and manufacturing capabilities analysis for the new product(s)
  • R&D, prototype, and test new products, including evaluating/testing new product claims, evaluate patentability, and evaluate pilot production runs
  • Assist with product introduction to marketplace
  • Identify and implement design changes to existing reverse engineering program that will improve performance, lower cost, and/or provide a competitive advantage

Skills and Experience

Bachelor's degree (B.S. /B.A.) or equivalent from a college or university in Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical Engineering (preference is Mechanical)

Licensure as a Professional Engineer or Engineer-in-Training is desirable

5+ years of engineering experience in a custom engineering manufacturing environment

Experience in any of the following areas is desirable:

  • Fluid dynamics
  • Casting design and foundry practice
  • Elastomer design and related manufacturing processes
  • Manufacturing machining processes
  • Welding practices and principles
  • Strong Project Management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects with little or no supervision
  • Experience using CAD software, preferably SOLIDWORKS
  • Experience working with and supporting various certifications, both domestic and international: ASME B16.34, ISO 9001:2015, etc.
  • Extensive knowledge of the mechanical properties of engineering materials
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment is required

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.

Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

Ability to lift and move materials and equipment as needed (up to 50 pounds).


Working Conditions:

The position is based in a machine shop environment, which may involve exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.

Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required.
