Job Description: The Field Pharmacy Technician will play a crucial role in supporting our field operations by conducting various audits, managing medication inventory, providing user training, resolving issues, and facilitating communication with healthcare facilities. The ideal candidate will be organized, possess strong attention to detail, and demonstrate excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct audits of medication carts in long-term care facilities, including med carts audits, CUBEX discrepancy audits, and expired drug review.
- Pull and review medication cards, ensuring accurate medication inventory and checking expiration dates.
- Verify medication carts for 5-8 residents to confirm the presence of all prescribed medications.
- Organize medication carts properly to facilitate efficient medication administration by facility staff.
- Audit control cards regularly to detect any signs of medication diversion.
- Provide user management training to facility staff on the proper use of pharmacy technology systems.
- Communicate effectively with facility staff to resolve any issues or concerns related to medication management.
- Test fax machines weekly and ensure fax beds are cleaned to maintain smooth communication with facilities.
- Review calls, addressing any medication-related inquiries or concerns.
- Manage the process of returns, anniversary fills, and reorder management, including processing returns for facilities.
- Generate and analyze drug utilization reports to identify opportunities for optimizing medication management and reducing costs.
- Collaborate with facility staff to review delivery reports, STAT reports, and on-time route deliveries to ensure timely medication supply.
- Evaluate STAT vs CUBEX reports to determine the need for adding drugs to EKITs to reduce STAT spend.
- Confirm that all facility nurses are fingerprinted and trained in medication management procedures.
- Assist with collections and billing processes and addressing census needs.
- Review reports to identify non-covered items and work with facility staff to reduce their occurrence.
- Collaborate with the pharmacy team and facility administration to develop and address clinical initiatives and savings plans.
- Understand LICs (Licensed Independent Contractors) level reporting and incorporate insights into field operations.
- Plan and conduct quarterly business reviews with facility administration to assess performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Perform post-payment analysis of high-cost medications and target areas for improvement.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; certification as a Pharmacy Technician preferred.
- Previous experience working as a pharmacy technician, preferably in a long-term care or institutional pharmacy setting.
- Strong understanding of pharmacy operations and medication management procedures.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in using pharmacy technology systems and software.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Willingness to travel to different long-term care facilities within the designated area.
- Commitment to upholding the highest standards of patient care and ethical conduct in pharmacy practice.
Working Hours: M-F 9 am-5:30 pm
Salary: $18-$22/hr
