Job DescriptionJob DescriptionJOB DESCRIPTION Title: Family Medicine Physician/DO FLSA Category: Exempt Reports To: Chief Medical OfficerDate Issued: October 2016Revised: July 1, 2024 Job Summary: The Family Medicine Physician/DO hereinafter referred to as “Physician” at Greater Baden Medical Services (GBMS) is responsible for providing direct patient care and care consultation for adult patients from 18 years of age and up, to include but not limited to a panel of patients as well as patients at GBMS. The Physician/DO practices in a team-based care model and collaborates with other members of the team to care for a panel and a population of patients. The Physician/DO refers adult patients for medical care management and care coordination services with internal staff and/or with other agencies. The Physician is responsible for timely follow up of specialty referrals and diagnostic testing. The Physician/DO prioritizes meeting and exceeding quality care measures as identified by GBMS.Essential Functions:
  1. Provides comprehensive physical assessment of patients from 18 years and up and evaluates the outcome of patient care.
  2. Prescribes or recommends forms of treatment such as pharmaceutical (drug) therapy, physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or related therapeutic procedures.
  3. Assures quality of patient care by participating in the organization’s Performance and Quality Improvement activities.
  4. Advocates and orders immunizations according to current AAP, ACIP and/or CDC guidelines.
  5. Participates in vaccine management and storage training.
  6. Arranges referrals, consultations, therapeutic services, and confers with other specialist on course of care and treatment.
  7. Establish medical diagnosis for common short-term and chronic stable health problems.
  8. Order, perform, and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  9. Order and perform diagnostic, therapeutic, and corrective measures. Prescribe drugs
  10. Provide same-day care as required.
  11. Refer patients to appropriate licensed physicians or other health care providers as needed.
  12. May refer patients to physician for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment.
  13. Provides direct patient care as needed and appropriate to serve the community in accordance with the organization’s mission, vision, and values
  14. Provides appropriate documentation of clinical care provided in a timely manner. This includes maintenance of patient charts in accordance with clinic protocols, and timely documentation of clinical procedures on encounter forms.
  15. Complies with regulations regarding consultations and other services as required by patients’ insurance coverage.
  16. Complies with Joint Commission standards for ambulatory care.
  17. Complies with Patient Centered Medical Home standards and guidelines
  18. Performs timely entry into, and manipulation of, the Electronic Health Record.
  19. Completes chart documentation timely in accordance with the company policy.
  20. Complies with the organizations training requirements and risk management plan/programs.
Nonessential Functions:
  1. Provides clinical leadership and acts as a resource to other members of the health care team, patients, or other members of the community.
  2. Provides clinical supervision and acts as a resource to nurse practitioners working in the clinic as appropriate.
  3. Works with Center Managers to facilitate smooth operation of clinic flow.
  4. Cooperates with compliance review activities.
  5. Submits information needed for credentialing files in a timely manner.
  6. When needed, assists the Safety Officer with employee health activities, especially in the event of an exposure to blood borne pathogens.
  7. Participates in team/staff meetings; attends in-service meetings and applicable workshops.
  8. Performs any and all other duties required to provide for optimal patient care.

  1. Current License to practice medicine in the State of Maryland.
  2. Current Maryland prescriber number, and current D.E.A. and C.D.S. License.
  3. DO license certification will be accepted
  4. Board certification or eligibility in a family medicine/primary care specialty. Board certification preferred; certification expected within one year of employment.
  5. Insurability (malpractice)
  6. Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate (CPR)
  7. ACLS or Advanced Life Support within 12 months of employment, if appropriate

Working Conditions: This job operates in an outpatient office environment.
  1. Accepts, adheres to and reports to assignments to particular sites, schedules and hours which may be changed at any time with reasonable notice.
  2. Position is required to function in a fast-paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent and stressful situations.
  3. Frequent interaction with a diverse population including team members, providers, patients, insurance companies and other members of the public. Function is subject to inside environmental conditions, with occasional outdoor exposures.
  4. Possible exposure to various environments such as: communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a hospital and medical office environment.
  5. May wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves or a mask when exposed to hospital environment outside of office.
