Marine Mechanic

Under the supervision of the Marine Maintenance Superintendent, the Marine Mechanic will perform work in repairing and maintaining electrical and mechanical equipment on passenger ferries, tug, and barge. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance and repairs, servicing and rebuilding diesel engines, removing props and shafts, and repairing and reinstalling boats in accordance with established schedules.

• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on passenger ferries, tug, and barge during scheduled down periods or in an emergency.
• Service and rebuild diesel engines, remove props and shafts, repair and reinstall boats in accordance with established schedules.
• Operate all equipment involved in the performance of engine rebuilds, shaft and prop replacement.
• Maintain inventory of repair parts and supplies and purchase required parts to conform to inventory standards under the authority of the Marine Maintenance Superintendent.
• Utilize the marine maintenance system, prepare and record maintenance reports on each vessel when problems are identified and work performed.
• Respond to after hour's emergency calls for repairs to all vessels as required.

• Graduation from a high school or equivalent.
• Supplemented by vocational training in motor repair, diesel engines or related area and two years of mechanical repair experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience to provide the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
• Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license.
