Production Packaging Lead III

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision of the Production Supervisor the Packaging Lead is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and monitoring packaging personnel. Coordinate activities of packaging personnel on various packaging lines and equipment to ensure that product is packaged to meet all safety rules and regulations, quality, and efficiency standards. Assist the Production Supervisor with the evaluation of personnel and assist with the weekly production schedule.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform line opening on the packaging lines with Quality Assurance
- Perform line/area clearance for removal of previous products, components and foreign materials and assist with approval of work area readiness prior to use
- Perform and document a wide variety of inspections, checks test and samples during the production process
- Monitor all aspects of the production operations and conduct routine “walk-through” in the production areas and other specified to ensure that good housekeeping practices, good hygiene practices which could affect the safety and quality of the manufactured products, are followed
- Verify that all materials are properly received, stored, and staged and segregated (allergens vs. non-allergens; organic vs. non-organic, etc.)
- Host daily production meetings with personnel and assign duties accordingly
- Verify scheduled batches against formula given and confirm the packaging components allocated for the manufactured product
- Maintain all quality and production paperwork including bottle and cap tracking logs, shrink sleeve tracking logs, area line clearance, room and equipment cleaning and sanitation, and production specification sheets
- Ensure all safety rules and regulations are being followed, provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) whenever needed to all employees
- Ensure compliance of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and Good Documentation Practices (GDP) are being followed
- Will participate in annual review process and provide feedback to the Supervisor on employees
- Will participate in disciplinary actions for employees
- Maintain a clean and neat work environment throughout the entirety of the shift
- Keep aligned communications with all departments as necessary
- Responsible for line efficiency and product yield
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Able to create and submit workorders to specific issues throughout the line
- Perform equipment or product changeovers as designated by the Supervisor or Production Manager
- Ability to properly perform Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO)
- Operate and adjust equipment to ensure that quality specifications are being met
- Assist Maintenance team in repairing, maintaining, and installing equipment as required
- Provide on the job training for employees
- Develop training curriculum, such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Standard Work Instructions (SWI) and Step Action Guides (SAG)
- Complete daily production logs and shift reports
- Responsible to report food safety problems to their supervisor or with someone with the authority to initiate action
- Oversees CIP process for assigned machinery
- Will participate in Continuous Improvement activities
- Assist with Root Cause Investigations
- Assist with developing and implementing CAPA (Corrective Action Preventive Action)
- Responsible for reporting unauthorized persons on site to their Supervisor and/or Manager who will address the situation accordingly
- This position may serve as a backup during audits in the absence of key personnel
- Perform other duties as directed by the Supervisor or Production Manager
REQUIRED EDUCATION / WORK EXPERIENCE / SKILLS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred and/or 3 years employment in a manufacturing position
- Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal
- Problem solving skills utilizing basic math and time management
- Effectively carrying out routine task with follow up, also being able to adapt to changes in schedule and staff throughout the day
- Basic computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Knowledge of food manufacturing processes, procedures, and equipment
- Forklift experience
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to work overtime and weekends as needed
- Regular attendance is required for this position
- Frequently standing and walking in the production area
- Occasionally lifting 25lbs and carrying 15lbs
- Occasionally work at and/or above shoulder level, reaching with hands and arms for grasping and manipulation of objects
- Occasionally climbing of ladders and/or stairs
- Occasionally stooping, crouching, kneeling, crawling, pushing, and pulling
- Rarely sitting
- Liaison with other production personnel to ensure production plan is being followed
