Job DescriptionJob DescriptionDescription

This position is responsible for ensuring the overall quality at Spectrum through the management of regulatory, company, and customer policies, programs and work instructions. Ensures all products meet company specifications and are produced in a wholesome manner that meets Company standards. This requires working closely with other teams on production issues/situations, product dispositions and investigations into root causes for deficiencies. Shall assist in managing quality programs and exercising technical expertise, including training, assessing performance and making improvements. Responsible for supporting the development and management of the Company’s Food Safety Management System.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Employee is required to conduct operational and pre-operational sanitation inspections including micro sampling to verify the effectiveness of sanitation activities
  • Completion of Quality and Food Safety, HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point), and sanitation paperwork which should ultimately result in no food safety deviations
  • Responsible for enforcing Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
  • Utilize problem solving skills to facilitate resolution of food safety issues
  • Support the Company’s Food Safety Management System
  • Assist in the required Food Safety training programs
  • Assist in GMP, CCP, and SSOP auditing and corrective action tasks
  • Assist/Coordinate in Mock Trace exercises, debriefing sessions and corrective action tasks
  • Schedule and conduct meetings with sanitation
  • Assist FSQA Supervisor in third party, customer, and FSIS audits
  • Assist in evaluating maintenance construction project as they pertain to Food Safety
  • Routine verifications and inspections
  • Responsible for verifying product to customer specifications
  • Responsibilities deemed necessary by FSQA Supervisor

Demands and Work Environment
  • Required to stand, sit, walk, push, pull, climb, reach overhead and bend to the floor
  • Subject to wet environment with temperatures from < 45 degrees to > 100 degrees Fahrenheit
  • High noise levels from operating machines
  • Physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts
  • Skin exposure to animal fat, grease, and chemicals
  • Exert 10 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or exert up to 10 pounds of force frequently
Qualifications
  • Ability to create, revise and interpret technical documents such as quality specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Knowledge and understanding of quality assurance principles, food science and meat processing, GMP principles, FSSC22000 concepts, and Company’s HACCP plan
  • A high level of technical expertise, ownership and practical knowledge of all QA/regulatory programs
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Ability to work on the internet, Spreadsheet, Presentation and Word Processing software
  • Comprehensive experience and understanding of USDA Rules and Regulations.
  • Ability to uphold regulatory, company, and customer standards
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
  • Strong oral and written language skills
  • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Strong conflict resolution skills
