General Description

The Quality Control Technician performs various general labor duties, primarily focusing on ensuring products pass quality inspection through various tests, including using precision measuring instruments and complex test equipment.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

· Quality Control Tech I – This is the entry level. The employee requires higher levels of training and supervision to perform to manager expectations. Employees at this level have minimum knowledge of hand tools, gauge equipment and record keeping.


Responsibilities/Duties

· Advise others on ways to improve processes or products.

· Analyze test results.

· Clean production equipment.

· Compare physical characteristics of materials or products to specifications or standards.

· Disassemble equipment for maintenance or repair.

· Evaluate quality of materials or products.

· Instruct workers to use equipment or perform technical procedures.

· Maintain production or processing equipment.

· Mark products, workpieces, or equipment with identifying information.

· Measure dimensions of completed products or workpieces to verify conformance to specifications.

· Monitor equipment operation to ensure proper functioning.

· Monitor equipment operation to ensure that products are not flawed.

· Notify others of equipment repair or maintenance needs.

· Read work orders or other instructions to determine product specifications or materials requirements.

· Record operational or production data.

· Repair production equipment or tools.

· Review blueprints or other instructions to determine operational methods or sequences.

· Smooth metal surfaces or edges.

· Sort materials or products for processing, storing, shipping, or grading.

· Stack finished items for further processing or shipment.

· Test chemical or physical characteristics of materials or products.

· Weigh finished products.

Requirements:

Responsibilities/Duties: Testing

  • Inspect, test, or measure materials for conformance to specifications.
  • Measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as rulers, callipers, gauges, or micrometres.
  • Read blueprints, data, manuals, or other materials to determine specifications, inspection and testing procedures, adjustment methods, certification processes, formulas, or measuring instruments required.
  • Record inspection or test data, such as weights, temperatures, grades, or moisture content, and quantities inspected or graded.
  • Mark items with details such as grade or acceptance-rejection status.
  • Notify supervisors or other personnel of production problems.
  • Discard or reject products, materials, or equipment not meeting specifications.
  • Collect or select samples for testing or for use as models.
  • Write test or inspection reports describing results, recommendations, or needed repairs.
  • Compare colors, shapes, textures, or grades of products or materials with color charts, templates, or samples to verify conformance to standards.
  • Recommend necessary corrective actions, based on inspection results.
  • Grade, classify, or sort products according to sizes, weights, colors, or other specifications.
  • Analyze test data, making computations as necessary, to determine test results.
  • Clean, maintain, calibrate, or repair measuring instruments or test equipment, such as dial indicators, fixed gauges, or height gauges.
  • Remove defects, such as chips, burrs, or lap corroded or pitted surfaces.


Quality Control

  • Conduct routine and non-routine analyses of in-process materials, raw materials, environmental samples, finished goods, or stability samples.
  • Interpret test results, compare them to established specifications and control limits, and make recommendations on appropriateness of data for release.
  • Perform visual inspections of finished products.
  • Complete documentation needed to support testing procedures including data capture forms, equipment logbooks, or inventory forms.
  • Calibrate, validate, or maintain equipment.
  • Participate in out-of-specification and failure investigations and recommend corrective actions.
  • Supply quality control data necessary for regulatory submissions.
  • Receive and inspect raw materials.
  • Investigate or report questionable test results.
  • Ensure cleanliness and safety standards are maintained.
  • Identify quality problems and recommend solutions.
  • Monitor testing procedures to ensure that all tests are performed according to established item specifications, standard test methods, or protocols.

Education, Work Experience, Skill Requirements & Certifications:

Minimum Education (or substitute experience) required:

  • High School Graduate or GED equivalent/Some college preferred.

Minimum Experience required:

  • Minimum 2+ years of relevant Cryogenic Quality related experience.
  • Experience in working with cryogenic equipment and/or hoses, valves and piping a plus.

Skills Required:

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced warehouse environment
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and be detail oriented. Ability to handle several projects simultaneously, prioritize work and handle last minute demands appropriately.
  • Proven success with working in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously without constant supervision.
  • Good communication, written and grammatical skills. Customer service oriented.
  • Entry level skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and general data entry.

Minimum License, Certifications & Affiliations/Memberships and CEU’s

  • Valid California driver’s license and an insured vehicle in good working order.

Special Requirement:

  • May be required to work weekends and holidays as business necessitates; schedules will be determined by management with at least 48 hours advance notice.

Work Environment:

Working in the shop, the following conditions may apply:

  • Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable.
  • Requires working in very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold (below 32 F degrees) temperatures.
