Position Overview & Responsibilities:
The Security Staff ensures the security and safety of staff, clients, and visitors to the Emergency Shelter in concert with established shelter and agency policies and procedures. Responsibilities include but not limited to: Staffing the Shelter Security Office while monitoring the security cameras for unusual occurrences and critical incidents. Admit authorized staff, volunteers and guests with the proper identification and as indicated by authorized shelter staff. Conduct hourly external and internal tours of shelter reporting resident and staff safety concerns, in addition to, facility security risks to the appropriate shelter staff. Maintain an hourly log documenting duty, observations and the outcome of external and internal tours of the building. Complete shelter incident reports in response to events identified in the shelter incident report policy. Ensure that all security equipment is operational, serviced and repaired when necessary. Ensure that staff and visitors follow shelter emergency protocol. Contact appropriate outside emergency service providers when warranted. Provide de-escalation support to staff and clients in response to conflict. Provide support as designated by the Shelter Director in response to crises. Conduct investigations as designated by management. Adhere to mandatory relief protocol to ensure the shelter maintains adequate 24-hour staffing. All security coordinators will be responsible for conducting security room inspections. All responsibilities are expected to be delivered satisfactorily and with superior customer service and according to Agency standards.

Qualifications:

  • A High School Diploma or the equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of 1 to 3 years of security experience required; experience in a human services or healthcare environment is preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License is preferred.
  • The ability to read, write and comprehend English is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member is required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to service of others is required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in communication, both verbal and in writing, is required.
  • Bilingualism is strongly preferred.
  • Will be required to attend Domestic Violence Advocate Training, post hire.
  • Satisfactory child abuse, criminal and FBI clearances before hire (paid by employer) and maintained for renewals thereafter (paid by employer)

Pay Rate: $16.58/hour; annual increases in July; pay differential for agency observed holidays ad declared inclement weather. Retention recognition increases for every 2 years of continuous service.

With over 165 staff, WAA serves over 14,000 individuals each year through emergency residential services (2 - 100 bed safe havens and 15 transitional housing apartments), legal services, hotline counseling, aftercare community based services, prevention & education, and advocacy.
