Position Summary


The Technical Support Specialist I/Network Administrator will be critical in providing effective technical support services to users, troubleshooting various hardware and software issues, and ensuring the smooth functioning of support and optimization of network services. This role requires proficiency in resolving technical support problems, offering guidance to users, and handling basic database administration tasks.


As an IT Specialist/Junior Network Administrator, you will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient functioning of computer systems and databases, resolving technical issues, and supporting users. Your expertise in technical troubleshooting, network administration, and proactive support will be essential to maintaining our organization's stable and effective IT environment.


Computer hardware and software skills are required. Organization and flexibility are essential, along with the ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and work as part of a team. Excellent verbal and written communications skills are also required.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify, research, and resolve technical support issues related to e-mail, computer directories, and standard Windows desktop applications.
  • Serve as the initial point of contact for troubleshooting network applications, hardware/software PC, and printer problems.
  • Provide phone and in-person IT support services, responding to queries and issues related to computer systems, software, and hardware.
  • Maintain the daily performance of computer systems and ensure their smooth operation.
  • Offer desktop support for MS Office and Windows OS, troubleshooting issues and providing necessary assistance.
  • Provide functional application support, assisting users in utilizing various software applications effectively.
  • Demonstrate proactive support by identifying problems or opportunities to improve systems and processes.
  • Examine existing IT systems and business models; analyze business improvement processes; design new and technology-based solutions.
  • Maximizes network performance by monitoring performance; troubleshooting network problems and outages; scheduling upgrades; collaborating with network architects on network optimization
  • Support the efforts to secure networks by establishing and monitoring security enforcement policies and defining network access
  • Participate in and assist in deploying firewalls and various security-based monitoring appliances and tools.


Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a relevant technical, engineering, or scientific field, or an equivalent combination of education and related IT experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in technical support and/or network administration.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting hardware and software issues, resolving technical problems, and providing user support.
  • Basic understanding of networks and experience in resolving related issues.
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with MS Office and Windows OS support.
  • Familiarity with functional application support to assist users in utilizing software applications effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, provide proactive support, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Ability to collaborate with clients, understand their requirements, and recommend suitable solutions.
  • Windows 10/11, Windows Server general Windows administration
  • Active Directory administration
  • Local area networks (LAN)
  • Computer hardware (installation, configuration and maintenance)
  • Computer communication systems (TCP/IP, DNS, etc.)


Project Location

Onsite 5 days a week in NE Washington, DC
