Job Title: Senior MySQL Database Administrator (DBA)

Location: Princeton, NJ

Job Type: Contract

Job Summary: We are looking for an experienced Senior MySQL Database Administrator to oversee the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of our MySQL database infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database administration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting, with a focus on ensuring the reliability, availability, and scalability of our database systems.

Responsibilities:

  1. Design and implement MySQL database solutions to meet the needs of the organization, including database schema design, capacity planning, and data replication strategies.
  2. Install, configure, and maintain MySQL database software and related tools, ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability.
  3. Monitor and optimize database performance through performance tuning, query optimization, and index management.
  4. Implement and maintain database backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and availability.
  5. Manage database security, including user access control, authentication, and data encryption, in compliance with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  6. Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, including database errors, performance bottlenecks, and data corruption.
  7. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software developers, system administrators, and network engineers, to support database-related projects and initiatives.
  8. Document database configurations, procedures, and best practices to ensure knowledge sharing and compliance with internal policies and standards.
  9. Stay current with MySQL and database industry trends, technologies, and best practices, and recommend improvements to enhance database performance, security, and scalability.
  10. Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior database administrators as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience as a MySQL Database Administrator in a production environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of MySQL database architecture, internals, and administration best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with MySQL database installation, configuration, and performance tuning.
  • Proficiency in SQL query language and database performance monitoring and optimization tools.
  • Experience with database backup and recovery procedures, including point-in-time recovery and disaster recovery.
  • Strong understanding of database security principles and best practices.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to diagnose and resolve database-related issues.
  • Experience with Linux/Unix operating systems and shell scripting.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • MySQL certification (e.g., MySQL Database Administrator, MySQL Developer) is a plus.
  • Experience with other database technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB) is a plus.
