Responsibilities:
The Food Assistant/Cook responsibilities include planning, preparing, and serving meals and snacks to safe haven residents. The kitchen/dining rooms are within each of our 100 bed safe haven that serve adults and their children, serving 3 meals a day 7 days per week. In addition to food prep and cooking, the Food Service Assistant/Cook maintains overall cleanliness of the kitchen/food storage area and dining room. Will also support management and other staff in maintaining a welcoming, safe, and supportive community environment. All responsibilities are expected to be delivered satisfactorily and with superior customer service and according to Agency standards.

Qualifications:

  • A High School Diploma or the equivalent is required.
  • Minimum two (2) years experience in food preparation and cooking in institutional setting is required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of dietary menu preparation and state regulations for food preparation and storage is required.
  • Valid Driver’s License, a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member is required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to service of others is required.
  • Bilingualism is strongly preferred.
  • ServeSafe Certification strongly preferred, ServeSafe will be required along with the City Food Service License. Any related fees will be paid by WAA.
  • Will be required to attend Domestic Violence Advocate Training, post hire.
  • Satisfactory clearances - Child Abuse, Criminal and FBI at hire and on-going employment (cost covered by employer)

WAA, nonprofit agency, is Philadelphia's leading domestic violence advocate and service provider and among the largest domestic violence agencies in the country. The mission of WAA is to provide quality, compassionate and non-judgmental services in a manner that fosters self-respect and independence in persons experiencing intimate partner violence through advocacy and community education. With over 160 staff, WAA serves (2-100 bed safe havens and 15 transitional housing apartments), legal services, hotline counseling, aftercare community-based services, prevention & education, and advocacy.
