EMR/Clinical Application Analyst Job Description


Job Summary:

The EMR (Electronic Medical Records) Analyst is responsible for supporting and optimizing the electronic medical record systems. This role involves configuring, maintaining, and improving EMR systems to ensure that they meet the needs of healthcare providers and comply with regulatory requirements. The EMR Analyst works closely with clinical staff, the IT department, and other stakeholders to ensure that the EMR system is efficient, reliable, and user-friendly. The EMR Analyst will also assist in support of ancillaryclinical applications. Reports to the EMR-Clinical Application Supervisor (Temp report to the Sr. Director of IT).


Qualifications: We are looking for candidates with a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Healthcare Administration, or associate's degree in a relevant discipline (information systems/technology, communications, or adjoining field). The EMR Analyst should have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience working with EMR systems in a healthcare setting. Relevant experience with EMR systems (Epic, Cerner, Meditech, Nextgen, McKesson), is a plus. However, experience with eClinical Works is preferred. Certifications related to EMR systems (e.g., Epic Certification, Cerner Certification, eClinical Works) are highly desirable. Additional IT certifications (e.g., CompTIA-A+, PMP) are advantageous.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong technical skills and proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting EMR systems.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and writing proficiency
  • Ability to train and support end-users effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of healthcare workflows and regulatory requirements.
  • Project management skills are a plus.

Responsibilities include:

EMRAncillary Clinical Application System Configuration and Maintenance:

  • Configure and customize Clinical software to align with clinical workflows and organizational requirements.
  • Perform routine maintenance and updates to the EMR system and clinical apps.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to the clinical application infrastructure.

User Support and Training:

  • Provide support to end-users, including healthcare providers and administrative staff, in using the EMR system.
  • Conduct training sessions for new users and ongoing training for existing users to ensure effective use of the EMR system.
  • Develop and update training materials and user manuals.
  • Follows relevant procedures to resolve incidents and fulfill requests within agreed upon service level agreements (SLAs) and escalate software issues in a timely manner.
  • Available for on-call duties as dictated by project scale

Data Management:

  • Ensure the integrity and security of patient data within the EMR system.
  • Perform data entry, validation, and quality control tasks.
  • Generate and analyze reports from the EMR system to support clinical and administrative decision-making.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure that the EMR system complies with all relevant regulations and standards, including HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act).
  • Assist with audits and assessments to ensure compliance with Federal, State and Municipal regulatory requirements.

System Optimization:

  • Identify opportunities for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the EMR system.
  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to gather feedback and implement system enhancements.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices related to EMR systems.

Project Management:

  • Lead or participate in EMR-related projects, such as system upgrades, migrations, and integrations with other healthcare systems.
  • Assist in development of project plans, timelines, and documentation.
  • Coordinate with vendors and external partners as needed.

Other: Initial probationary period is three months.

Salary range: Competitive pay. Comprehensive benefits package included.

Work hours: 40 hours/week (M-F 9:00am - 5:00pm)

Working Conditions: Office environment within a healthcare facility at multiple locations; all within 3 city blocks. May require some evening or weekend work to perform system updates. Sitting, standing and walking approximately 80% of the time. Some or possibly lifting of 10 - 30 lbs and pushing of 5-20 lbs. Normal accessibility and mobility required is required.
