ENGINEERING PROJECT MANAGER I

As the Engineering Project Manager I coordinate and manage the work of other professionals, providing practical, inspired designs for infrastructure projects ranging widely in scope, including water treatment and distribution, wastewater treatment and collection, stormwater, small roadway, and site development assignments. Reporting to a designated Senior Project Manager or Principal, you work independently and oversee the work of others. You nurture strong working relationships with clients and provide oversight throughout all project phases. You serve as a mentor, teacher, and advisor, guiding junior team members. As the Engineering Project Manager, I manage multiple, small to medium size projects of moderate complexity.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE

  • You earned a BS (and/or MS) in your field of expertise and at least eight (8) years of civil engineering experience, with a track record of developing proactive designs for a broad range of project types.
  • Professional licensure (PE) is preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of the foundational principles of engineering
  • In-depth knowledge of construction processes plans and specifications, as well as their application and relevance to public works and construction projects.
  • Ability to foster a creative engineering environment.
  • Strong communication skills, (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to work across a wide range of areas within the building systems engineering discipline.
  • Expertise in AutoCAD, Water CAD, Sewer CAD or Civil 3D, as well as the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong ability to prioritize and juggle critical tasks, seeing them through to completion while maintaining high design standards and adhering to established project timelines.

CORE DUTIES

  • Keep abreast of new scientific methods and developments affecting the organization for the purpose of recommending beneficial changes.
  • Developing responsibility in nurturing leads, developing, and maintaining professional contacts, converting current projects into follow-on projects, bringing in new work, participating in proposal presentations.
  • Work with clients, consultants, and agencies to preplan project funding methods.
  • Project-related duties include the management of both personnel and processes.
    1. Develop project scopes and objectives and coordinate all project efforts – both administrative and technical – to ensure the most gainful and cost-effective outcome of assigned tasks.
    2. Establish short and long-term goals and create appropriate timelines for their completion, subsequently assigning specialized teams to accommodate related needs.
    3. Schedule, lead, and attend client vision sessions.
    4. Develop new relationships and work to enhance existing partnerships.
    5. Write project proposals, assisting in marketing efforts to grow CPL’s business.
    6. Provide management of internal finances, including billing, invoice generation, and asset/resource allocation
    7. Perform quality assurance/control on others’ work, verifying methodologies, calculations, outcomes, etc.
  • Supervisory requirements including recruitment, retention, and development of talent including:
    1. Engage and foster the growth of CPL team members. Provide encouragement and regular feedback; and serve as a mentor/example for all levels of the team.
    2. Manage/oversee career conversations with your team on an established schedule (annual career conversations, regular check-ins, and the development of career plans for each team member).
    3. Develop future leaders within the organization (train your replacement).
    4. Engage, motivate, and lead internal and external stakeholders to develop strategies and plans to move the organization in the desired direction.
    5. Influence people through effective communication
    6. Managing team member allocation and assessing the strengths of the project team to organize and regulate workload assignments.

The rate for this position generally ranges between $85K – 128K annually. This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the New York Pay Transparency Law. It is based on what a successful New York applicant might be paid and assumes that the successful candidate will be in New York or perform the position from New York. Similar positions located outside of New York will not necessarily receive the same compensation. Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted by New York Equal Pay Transparency Law. Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location and comparison to employees already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law. A potential new employee's pay history will not be used in compensation decisions.
