Reports to: Director of Education and works closely with Education Program Manager and other members of the education team.
Location: 1106 East 30th Street, Suite G, Kansas City, MO 64109.
Schedule: Standard weekday schedule with some evening and weekends required. Some remote work can be accommodated, but this is primarily an in-office position.
Located at: 1106 East 30th Street in Midtown Kansas City, MO, with some remote work possible.
Compensation: $40,000 to $45,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications


Position overview

The Education Outreach Coordinator contributes to BikeWalkKC’s mission by serving as our primary liaison to local schools and other community groups hosting our youth education programs, working with each partner to plan and coordinate a range of classes and educational programs appropriate to the needs of students and school communities. The Coordinator has primary responsibility for scheduling classes, personnel, equipment, and vehicles – and also works with our instructors and marketing/events team.

BikeWalkKC has one of the country’s largest Safe Routes to School and Youth Education programs in the active transportation and active living sectors. We serve thousands of students each year, primarily at dozens of schools plus other community sites across the KC metro area. The Coordinator is key to ensuring these programs are successfully planned to efficiently serve our students, partners, and their communities.
 

General Responsibilities

Scheduling, Outreach, and Coordination:

  • Schedules and coordinates schools, instructors and bike fleets.
  • Coordinates and conducts outreach to new schools. 
  • Ensures that part-time education instructors are given accurate shift information and schedule on a regular basis.
  • Communicate regularly with instructors about shift changes or important information received from site contacts in a timely manner. This includes weather-related information or cancelations.
  • Will sometimes coordinate and teach adult education programs.

Collaboration:

  • Frequent collaboration with Education Operations Coordinator to coordinate trailer hauling, schedule shop help to ensure that fleets are maintained, and create systems to track if equipment is functioning and well supplied.
  • Collaborate with the Education Program Manager to ensure our programs are running efficiently and sustainably by developing semester calendars, delegating tasks on special projects, presenting on our work at schools and outreach events, and other duties as assigned.
  • Meet and collaborate with the Communications & Development Manager on a monthly basis to update them on current programs, future outreach events, and assist in education promotional/marketing efforts.
  • Attend weekly core education team meetings to update the group on current projects and collaborate on future project coordination.
  • Assist with and attend end of semester meetings with the whole education team to provide updates on future education programming and current coordination efforts.

Instruction:

  • Will do some teaching, mostly as a substitute or fill in when needed. This may include weekend/weeknight opportunities and outreach/tabling events.

Reporting:

  • Collects, organizes, compiles, and sends youth education data as required from funding partners/organizations.
  • Assist with Built Environment Assessments and reporting.
  • Assist with various reporting tasks including mileage reporting and assisting with monthly grant reporting as needed.

Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to:

  • Design and create flyers, forms, and information documents to assist in the smooth delivery of programs.
  • Occasionally will drive a company vehicle to pick up/drop off equipment to program sites.
  • Assist with bike donation pick up/drop off via phone, email, and in-person at the office.
  • Attend mandatory training and professional development meetings.

Onboarding process

The first six months of this position are primarily learning and teaching youth education programs, and assisting the Education Program Manager with scheduling and outreach. After six months, the Education Outreach Coordinator will continue to do some teaching, mostly as a substitute or fill-in, and will occasionally work tabling and outreach events. During this period they will also start performing light scheduling duties and shadowing on program site visits. The Education Outreach Coordinator will work in collaboration with the Education Program Manager and/or the Director of Education until they feel comfortable with the program’s scheduling and outreach processes.

Performance and Outcomes Evaluation
The Education Outreach Coordinator will meet with the Director of Education for an annual review with a six-month status update check-in meeting. They will meet with the Education Program Manager and/or the Director of Education towards the end and start of each semester (Spring, Summer, Fall) to define goals and objectives for the next semester and evaluate the progress toward the previous semester’s goals and objectives.

Working Environment
This position is based at our office in Midtown Kansas City, MO and is primarily an office-based position due to responsibilities coordinating logistics and equipment. Some remote work is possible based upon performance and productivity. Some evening and weekend work will be required due to the schedule of our educational programs. Several months of onboarding will require significant time in the field at schools in order to become familiar with our programs and curriculum.

Compensation and Benefits
