Screw Extrusion Setup

NOW HIRING: SCREW EXTRUSION OPERATOR

PAY RANGE: $20.30hr + .90c shift premium

Romulus Afternoon Shift: 3:45 pm – Midnight

Romulus Midnight Shift: 11:45 pm – 8:00 am

Purpose:

The primary purpose of the job is to operate all extrusion and downstream equipment and set up all production jobs without supervision. In addition, this position assures that we are producing quality product efficiently.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform the duties and responsibilities of the lower-level classifications.
• Start and size jobs and operate all extrusion jobs with minimal supervision.
• Perform set-up and tear down of extruders and downstream equipment with minimal supervision.
• Perform minor die repairs.
• Adjust machinery / process as needed (take-off speed, screw speed, temperature, air pressure, etc.).
• Troubleshoot all extruders and downstream equipment.
• Troubleshoot production process difficulties.
• Properly use machinery and equipment to eliminate the possibility of damage and maintain for optimal performance.
• Assist in the production development of new products and processes.
• Assist all co-workers.
• Train employees.
• Maintain and comply with the quality system.
• Exhibit supportive positive behavior in all interactions with co-workers, supervisors, managers, and customers.
• Maintain a safe working environment.

Other Functions:

• Drive a hi-lo.
• Run new die and equipment trials with detailed documentation
• Occasionally required to work overtime and/or weekends.

Non-routine tasks

• Load and unload trucks.

Minimum Requirements:

1. Skills/ knowledge

Basic math skills, including general understanding of fractions and decimals. Advanced Statistical Process Control. Advanced blueprint reading. Understand all blueprints and drawings related to extruded products and tooling

2. Experience/Education

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and hands-on thermoplastic extrusion experience. S.P.C. Certificate, Hi-Lo license.

3. Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, or the general public.

4. Math Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

5. Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in

situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

6. Physical Demands: Standing at length required. Some walking, sitting and lifting also expected. Use of handsfor manipulating machine parts. Speech and hearing also required, primarily for communicating with supervisors and co-workers.

7. Vision Requirements: Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches). Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more). Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors). Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eyes to bring an object into sharp focus)

8. Work Environment

Requires considerable alertness while working with machines and tools with hot or moving parts. Moderate to loud noise levels in plant area with continuous grinding and banging and intermittent high-pitched noise from saws.
