Summary

We are searching for a full-time nutrition coordinator and float teacher to work in Madison's first "WELLness" preschool. This is a great opportunity to launch your career in family and early childhood nutrition education. The nutrition coordinator should be able to multitask and be proactive, driven, active and flexible. We focus on nutrition and prepare healthy snacks with organic ingredients when possible.

This position will design and manage our monthly menus, prepare and distribute snacks and meals to classrooms, and is encouraged to create opportunities for children to try unique, nutritious foods. We also have a backyard garden that we harvest vegetables from for recipes. The position will at times support covering classrooms as needed, carry out various duties in each of our classrooms and meet the individual needs of all children to support play, exploration, and learning.

Duties

  • Design monthly menus for the school and coordinate recipes, ingredients and logistics
  • Create curriculum for students to encourage healthy habits
  • Develop special projects that both benefit the school with our wellness focus and also allow you to expand your interests in nutrition, wellness, etc.
  • Manage kitchenmaintenance and organization, and snack duties as well as other support tasks such as assisting with activity set-up.
  • Float to classrooms as needed to support lead teachers.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment as well as productive relationships with students and families.
  • Uphold a commitment to professionalism.
  • Communicate appropriately and professionally with parents and fellow staff.
  • Participate in staff and training meetings.
  • Set developmentally appropriate expectations for children and use positive reinforcement techniques for child behaviors.
  • Must be able to lift children and/or equipment up to 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, sit, and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must have a warm, supportive attitude toward children.
  • Must be reliable and flexible in adapting to changes within the program.
  • Must be willing to accept feedback in order to improve work performance.
  • Fulfilling continuing education requirements (25 hours/year for full-time employees; 15 hours/year for part-time employees). We provide training and certification materials for teaching certification when necessary.
  • Must be willing to perform other duties as required.
  • Must be willing to have fun


Requirements

The ideal candidate would exhibit a passionate and enthusiastic attitude towards working with children and creating snack recipes and culinary experiencesthat introduce them to new, healthy foods. Experience working with young children a plus, but not required.Candidate must have reliable transportation - mileage will be reimbursed for necessary trips to acquire supplies for snacks and other activities.
