Community Action Partnerships of Western Nebraska (CAPWN) is a non-profit community-based health and human services organization that serves low-income, disadvantaged and those unable to meet their needs through other sources. The agency was established in 1965 and provides services to over 9,000 individuals, children, and families in three main areas:

  • Community Health Services: WIC, Commodity Supplemental Food, Foster Grandparents, Migrant Seasonal Head Start, and Child Development Center.
  • Clinical Health Services: Primary Care, Reproductive Health, Diabetes Management, Immunizations, Migrant Health, Ryan White HIV; Behavioral Health including Counseling Services, Medication Management, Medication Assisted Treatment and Substance Use Counseling and Intensive Outpatient Services and Dental Services.
  • Supportive Health Services: Family Stabilization, a Teen Outreach Program, SOAR, Youth Leadership Program, Youth Shelter, and Housing Assistance Programs.

MSHS Infant/Toddler Teacher

Monday- Friday 7AM to 3:30PM

Seasonal | 40 hours

Areas of Responsibility: Manage the Migrant Head Start infant/toddler classroom ensuring Head Start objectives are implemented in accordance with Dept. of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families (ACF) Head Start Performance Standards, National Association for Education of Young Children (NAEYC), Nebraska state childcare licensing, and CAPWN Policies & Procedures

Major Duties:

  1. Establish and maintain a classroom structure implementing program curriculum to fidelity, developmentally appropriate practices, and a safe, healthy, and nurturing learning environment that ensures a quality child development program.
  2. Plan and implement individualized activities to support child goals and optimally enhance growth and development.
  3. Supervise teacher’s aide and floaters in the classroom to ensure a quality child development program.
  4. Interact in a skilled, respectful, and sensitive manner to strengthen families as the primary nurturers, first and most important teachers, and greatest advocates of their children.
  5. Partner with families and communicate to provide children with education, health, and nutritional services to enhance children’s growth and development.
  6. Provide a well-managed program that supports regular communication, program documentation, team goals, and reports in a timely manner.
  7. Effectively use and maintain materials, supplies, equipment, facilities, and grounds; ensure facility meets local, state, and federal requirements.
  8. Partner with the management team to provide individualized training to support staff in the classroom and help encourage professional growth and development through regular reflective supervision.
  9. Recruit eligible children to ensure full enrollment.
  10. Encourage volunteer and community involvement and support for the program documented by non-federal match.
  11. Maintain standards of confidentiality regarding program, children, families, and staff.
  12. Participate and contribute to the support of a quality program through participation in team meetings, and program assessment.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

  • Classroom 75%
  • Off-site home visits, training, meetings, and community interactions 25%
  • Work is frequently stressful and requires the ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Moderate level of supervision; supervises up to five staff.
  • Occasional out-of-town travel for training.
  • Will work some evenings and weekend meetings and training.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must complete health physical upon entry to program and yearly health screenings.
  • Must complete TB titer and DTAP vaccination or show proof of completion.
  • Must be able to move about, getting up and down from floor play with children.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Minimum Qualifications:

Grade 6:

  1. Must be age 18 or above.
  2. Must obtain a Child Development Associates credential within 24 months of hire.
  3. Requires proficient level of communication skills oral and written, teamwork and managing conflict, as well as the ability to prioritize or organize own job responsibilities.
  4. Basic level of computer knowledge.
  5. Experience in working with families from various ethnic backgrounds is preferred.
  6. Current Heartsaver® Pediatric First Aid CPR AED card or must be able to acquire within three months.
  7. Complete 15 contact hours of education annually in subject matter related to position.

Grade 7:

  1. Must meet minimum qualifications above.
  2. Must have a current preschool CDA.
  3. Early Childhood classes, experience in education of children ages 0-5 is preferred.

Grade 8:

  1. Meet the minimum requirements above.
  2. AA with CDA or 6 classes in Early Childhood or AA in Early Childhood.

Grade 9:

  1. Meet the minimum requirements above.
  2. BA in Education or related field and CDA in 6 months.

Grade 10:

  1. Meet the minimum requirements above.
  2. BA in Early Childhood.
