Purpose of Role

Adjunct faculty member to teach a course in Alternative and Renewable Energy Issues for students of all majors during Fall 2024 semester. This course will discuss climate change and the role of fossil fuels, the different technologies available for meeting our energy needs without fossil fuels (wind, solar, biofuel, geothermal and others), and government policies related to energy and climate change.

The course will meet in person twice weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays (on the Amherst Campus) from 2:30 to 3:50pm. Curricular and instructional design help is available.


About This Opportunity

Course(s) to be taught: SUST/IND 322 Alternative and Renewable Energy Issues

Course Description:

This course will introduce students to the history of energy use, current sources of energy used worldwide, energy technologies including those under development, as well as discuss the role of governmental policies and funding in energy use and technological development.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience with "active learning" in both an online and face to face modality
  • Demonstrate analytical and organizational skills necessary to plan, implement and evaluate educational activities to assure compliance with established goals and objectives
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written, necessary to interact effectively with all university constituents
  • Strong time management/organizational skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations


Required Qualifications

Candidate should possess a master's degree or higher in an appropriate field, have experience that relates to the course material and facility with the online environment. Previous teaching experience is preferred.
