About this role:
Many children with special needs have a hard time attending groups in their community. Early Intervention provides a safe environment for these families to work on skills and practice techniques that will help them find success within their community. The group assistant works with these families under the supervision of the EI professional. They assist Early Intervention (EI) Professional in the preparation, organization and facilitation of child groups and supervision of children.
Schedule: Part Time, 24 - 28 hours / week
We are looking for people who:
- High School Diploma or GED, required.
- Experience working with children 0-3 in a professional setting, required.
Valid Driver's License and reliable vehicle, required.
- Must be proficient in the use of computers, email and Microsoft Office Software, required.
The physical requirements for this role are:
Must be able to bend, reach, stretch, crawl and participate in play, both inside and outside
Must be able to stoop, squat, sit, and kneel in order to closely interact with children
Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. unassisted
Must be able to respond quickly to ensure the safety of children in the event of an emergency
Must have accurate or correctable auditory and visual abilities to observe and respond to children
In this role, you’ll get to:
Participate as a member of the trans-disciplinary team in program planning and delivery of center-based child and parent/child groups
Work with groups of children and siblings before and after groups.
Assist families/guardians in getting children in and out of transportation safely (as required)
May assist with attending to personal hygiene of children, including changing diapers, toileting and activities of daily living (ADL) skills
Responsible for daily preparation and clean-up of classroom and materials for group activities
Assists in housekeeping duties including upkeep of equipment, toys, assessment kits, and classroom space
Assist with research and purchase of supplies and materials for classroom
Assist with Administrative duties as needed
Provides resource materials for Early intervention Staff as requested
May accompany EI Specialists on home visits when necessary
Participate in team meetings, group and individual supervision, trainings and professional development activities
Assist with outreach and fundraising activities as requested
Other job-related duties as required
