JOB SUMMARY

This position provides substance abuse counseling, case management and clinical group services. Counselors interact with participants on a day-to-day basis providing individual and group counseling, as well as engaging in rehabilitation activities from time-to-time. Counselors provide substance abuse recovery skills and information and leadership necessary to provide participants with the ability to recover from substance abuse addiction.

  • Provides community outreach and early intervention activities by supplying information about the program to community

agencies connected to the AOD services system to provide them an overview about program availability.

  • Maintains a caseload as prescribed by the Program Manager; Delivers substance abuse treatment to participants by

providing a variety of interventions including individual and group therapy, twelve-step methodology, and other relevant

sobriety-related services; Initiates appropriate and timely interventions.

  • Works directly with the participant to provide orientation to the treatment program and the concept of sobriety.
  • Develops community resources for continued community treatment.
  • Gathers information for assessment and diagnosis; Conducts intake interviews and completes comprehensive individual

assessment of participant's mental status and level of social functioning.

  • Develops and implement a comprehensive treatment plan for each assigned participant and evaluates the progress of the

individual participants according to the treatment plan.

  • Interacts with court and law enforcement officials as a team member and on a professional level while maintaining

appropriate boundaries.

  • Transports clients when necessary.
  • Provides crisis intervention and refers participants to community health, HIV and TB clinics as necessary.
  • Provides input to develop and improve program servicing and delivery.
  • Provides leadership by ensuring that meetings run smoothly, supporting participants attentive behavior, setting daily goals,

ensuring participants are informed of inappropriate behavior, acting as a role model and encouraging team building

feedback and problem- solving in participants.

  • Assists other staff in dealing with problematic participant's behavior.
  • Designates new target goals for participants consistent with overall treatment goals.
  • Attends treatment meetings and provides input to treatment plan.
  • Performs specimen collection and drug testing, as required.
  • Acts as leader/co-leader in assigned groups.
  • Assists in community placement of the participants, aids in the location of needed services, provides personal support and
  • Comply with all MHS and program rules, policies and procedures including HIPAA standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma, GED, or the equivalent, and experience working with substance abusers.
  • Actively working toward a recognized alcohol and drug certification plus two years' experience working with alcohol and drug related issues/addictions, preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of abusive behavior.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office Suite and EHR software.

  • Ability to problem solve and react appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively collaborate with a team.
