Lebanon, United States Skjodt-Barrett Foods Full time
Job DescriptionJob Description

Who we are

Skjodt-Barrett is a world-class manufacturer of food solutions and custom ingredients for North America's most beloved and trusted brands. We take pride in working closely with our customers to understand their unique needs and create innovative, individualized solutions that deliver joy to their customers.

A family-founded company started over 35 years ago, we are backed by the investment company Axel Johnson Inc (AJI). With their investment and support, we are well-positioned to foster growth and explore new opportunities.

Our customers, blue-chip international brands and mid-sized producers alike, are why we exist. Our teams of innovators, communicators, and managers are the people who meet their needs, build trust, and exceed their expectations.

Who we need

Reporting to the Quality Assurance (QA) Supervisor, we are looking for a Senior QA Technician to join our cutting-edge food production plant in Indiana. You will play a critical role in implementing quality assurance programs within the food product manufacturing process and ensuring that all products meet the highest quality standards and comply with regulatory requirements. You will be the main point of contact for customers requesting sampling during trials.

This is a day shift role, Monday through Friday, 6 AM—2:30 PM, with some flexibility required during audits and food trials.

Who you are

You want to bring your experience and knowledge of quality control and testing standards in food or ingredient plant operations to make an impact. You want to work for a company where your voice will be heard and where you can grow your career in QA and beyond.

What's in it for you

Autonomy and influence. As a crucial point of contact for customers during ingredient and product trials, you will be essential in maintaining our position as a leading manufacturer for globally recognized brands. This is a rare opportunity to work closely with not just the QA and Plant Managers but our COO as well.

Career development. You will help guide the work of a team, prioritizing a collaborative environment. Whether you want to move up within QA as we continue to build the team or into another area of plant operations, you will be supported in your professional growth.

What you will do:

  • Conduct quality control and testing. You will be accountable for completing routine testing, which includes environmental monitoring, light monitoring, water sampling, air sampling, and nitrogen sampling. You will perform and oversee testing raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods to ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards. You will field external requests for sampling from customers, determining batch and timing. You will analyze test results, identify trends, recommend corrective actions, maintain detailed documentation and report on results.
  • Conduct lab inventory. You will determine and schedule dates for recycling or destroying ingredients or products, taking responsibility for adding to the Dommer list. You will perform inventory audits and work with purchaser to maintain acceptable levels.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance. You will maintain up-to-date knowledge of food safety regulations and quality assurance practices. You will ensure all products meet relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, USDA, HACCP, etc.). You will conduct self-inspections to monitor the implementation of and compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) principles. You will assist in preparing for audits by regulatory agencies and customers.

What you bring to the role:

  • The experience. You have worked in quality control or quality assurance in a food manufacturing environment. You have a strong understanding of quality management systems, regulatory requirements, and industry standards. You have an understanding of food safety requirements and have completed HACCP training and GFSI scheme training. Ideally, you are familiar with FDA, BRC, and other relevant audits and regulatory requirements.
  • The integrity and accountability. You have an analytical mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and creative problem-solving. You have excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • The interpersonal skills. You have effective and professional verbal and written communication skills. You are highly collaborative and can work across departments and sites, guiding and influencing the work of those around you.
  • The technical skills. You have strong knowledge of quality assurance processes in food manufacturing, including experience with Dommers. You are proficient with QA testing methods and tools, including sensory evaluation, microbiological testing, and chemical analysis.

Why join?

We support and care for our employees and their families.

We want to ensure our employees feel supported and appreciated. Starting after 60 days, we offer comprehensive health, dental, short and long term disability coverage and additional benefits, insurance options, and 401K matching.

We provide paid accrued vacation time starting at 13 days per year, plus 8 paid holidays, 2 days paid sick time, and access to Employee Assistance Program, Tuition Reimbursement Program, Annual Bonus Program, and a Perfect Attendance Quarterly Bonus.

Apply now.

At Skjodt-Barrett, we aim for diversity, equality, accessibility and inclusion in all of our operations and interactions. We welcome and appreciate candidates with a range of backgrounds and experiences. If you have 70% of the qualifications we are looking for and want to play an integral role in delivering innovative food product solutions, apply to express your interest.

What you can expect from our interview process:

  2. An interview with the Hiring Manager to discuss how your experience lines up with the needs of the role and the organization.
  3. An on-site plant tour and a panel interview with the Plant Manager and an HR Generalist. This will be a chance to see firsthand the plant setup, understand current standards and discuss future plans.
