Position: Quality Assurance Field Inspector (QAFP) – Geotechnical

Reports to: Chief Resident Engineer


General Qualities:

- Has excellent communication and writing skills.

- Possesses a thorough knowledge of construction processes.

- Has excellent Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to navigate through company internet-based systems.

- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions. Must be physically able to perform moderately strenuous tasks which include walking along rough terrain, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

- Proactive self-starter capable of setting a positive example for the staff.


Technical Responsibilities:

- Responsible for geotechnical inspections.

- Performs oversight inspections and audits to ensure that the Work is compliant with Plans, Specifications, Quality Control Plans, and all other required provisions.

- Perform field surveillance of quality procedures, verification of corrective actions for quality findings, review of testing, inspection, and sampling documents.

- Review of quality control and quality assurance records.

- Required to prepare and submit detailed daily work records in accordance with NYSDOT Manual of Uniform Record Keeping (MURK)or other form(s) approved by the Port Authority.

- Review technical drawings and other engineering data; ensure structures are built according to specifications.

- Conduct site visits and investigations, analyze engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations.


Requirements:

Educational /Professional Experience Required:

- Minimum of five years of experience in off-site fabrication and/or on-site erection of steel structures.

- AWS (American Welding Society) Certification as Welding Inspector (CWI) is highly desired but not a must.

- Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) experience is highly desired but not a must.

- International Code Council (ICC) bolting inspector certification is highly desired but not a must.


Professional Development:

- Actively participates in professional development and training and licensing.
