Position

In accordance with the East End Prep mission and values, the part-time tutor works individually or with small groups of students throughout the school day to close learning gaps and increase the number of students learning at grade level. Responsibilities

  • Create a positive, supportive learning environment that promotes joy, self-discipline and East End Prep’s core values
  • Possess a deep understanding of the science of reading, including strategies to support developing readers
  • Differentiate instruction to support all students in the learning process, including students with disabilities and English language learners
  • Execute scripted lesson plans that are targeted to individual skill deficits
  • Provide individual or small group interventions and maintain accurate records, including attendance, progress monitoring and assessment
  • Analyze assessment data and use it to inform your instruction
  • Work in partnership with lead teachers and grade-level teams to enhance student learning
  • Maintain close relationships with families and caregivers, including phone calls and virtual/in-person conferences
  • Support and collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and ensure school-wide success

Qualifications

  • Highly effective communication and collaboration skills with all stakeholders
  • Experience in teaching elementary or middle school students, preferably in individual or small group settings
  • Demonstrated strong capability to lead students to close unfinished learning gaps
  • Demonstrate strong classroom and time management skills
  • Proven ability to work as a member of a team with a commitment to his/her own learning
  • Experience designing and/or implementing differentiated reading lessons
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Holds or is eligible to secure a valid TN State teacher certification (preferred)
  • Additional skills that enhance students’ academic experience (e.g. multi-lingual, musician, etc.) are highly sought

Compensation

This position is part-time and includes an hourly compensation rate of $25-$30. It is expected that the position will average 8-12 hours per week (Monday through Thursday).

Required Training: August 19 - 22

Start Date: August 26

Tutoring Time Options: 8am - 11am or 1pm - 3pm
