The Head of Finance at FairWind, Inc. is responsible for overseeing all finance and accounting duties for FairWind, Inc. and FairWind Canada Inc.. This includes ensuring financial reporting compliance with GAAP/IFRS standards and maintaining robust financial operations.


Direct Reports:

  • NA region Finance & Accounting team

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Systems & Reporting:
    • Design and maintain accounting information systems to produce timely and relevant financial data for internal and external requirements.
    • Oversee the production of periodic financial reports, ensuring compliance with GAAP/IFRS standards.
  • Financial Operations:
    • Manage payee processes, cash flow, purchasing, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
    • Establish internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions and budget preparation.
    • Monitor day-to-day financial operations and accounting duties within the company.
  • Insurance & Compliance:
    • Manage insurance policies, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
    • Ensure departmental compliance with government requirements at all levels.
  • Vendor & Credit Management:
    • Correspond with creditors and vendors regarding payment schedules, outstanding credits, and other finance-related inquiries.
    • Oversee timely and accurate invoicing and monitor overdue trade receivables.
    • Track all payments and expenditures, including payroll, purchase orders, invoices, and statements.
  • Tax & Audit:
    • Handle tax planning throughout the fiscal year and file annual corporate federal and state tax returns.
    • Prepare year-end audit documentation as requested by corporate finance.
  • Strategic Financial Planning:
    • Make recommendations to management on short- and long-term financial objectives and policies.
    • Provide financial analysis focusing on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
    • Participate in policy development as a member of the Leadership team.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Supervise the finance department, including hiring, training, evaluating staff performance, and recommending personnel actions.
    • Plan work assignments, evaluate work performed, and provide direction on procedural and technical problems.
    • Monitor work outcomes and provide metric data for management.
  • Additional Duties:
    • Manage permissions for FairWind NA and FairWind Canada banking accounts, including signatory permissions.
    • Administer software related to insurance, 401k, and AMEX accounts.
    • Access IT systems necessary to perform described duties.
    • Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Criteria for Success:

  • Compliance with corporate standards and guidelines.
  • Continuous improvement of financial processes.

Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 10%
Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (required); Master’s Degree (preferred)
  • 7+ years in finance/accounting; 5+ years in leadership roles
  • Experience in the renewable energy sector (preferred)
