Veterinary Surgical RVT (Registered Veterinary Technician) or Veterinary Assistant
Surgical Assistance: Support veterinarians during surgical procedures, including patient positioning, surgical site preparation, and providing the necessary surgical instruments and supplies.
Sterile Techniques: Maintain strict sterile techniques and adherence to aseptic protocols during surgical procedures to prevent infections and promote patient safety.
Surgical Instrument Care: Clean, sterilize, and maintain surgical instruments and equipment, ensuring proper functioning and availability for procedures.
Postoperative Care: Assist with postoperative care, including wound management, bandage application, and administration of medications as directed by the veterinary team.
Recordkeeping: Accurately and promptly document surgical procedures, treatments, and observations in medical records.
Client Communication: Provide compassionate and professional communication with pet owners, answering general inquiries, relaying messages, and providing updates on surgical procedures and patient care as directed by the veterinary team.
Facility Assistance: Provide support to other departments or areas of the hospital as needed, contributing to the smooth operation of the veterinary facility.
Qualifications: Veterinary Surgical RVT (Registered Veterinary Technician) or Veterinary Assistant
Certification and Experience: Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT), Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), or Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) with at least 3 years of surgical experience.
Surgical Knowledge and Skills: Proficient understanding of surgical procedures, aseptic techniques, and surgical instrument handling.
Anesthesia Monitoring: Experience in administering all anesthetic support from beginning sedation, through surgery and post-operative recovery and extubation. This would include emergency intervention and the transfer of patients from the surgery service to the ICU. Knowledge and experience with various nerve- blocking techniques administered prior to, during and, post-surgical procedures.
Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with the veterinary team and pet owners professionally and compassionately.
Attention to Detail: Strong observational skills and attention to detail to accurately report patient behavior, vital signs, and surgical progress to the veterinary team.
Physical Stamina: Ability to handle physically demanding aspects of the job, including lifting, restraining, and assisting with the transportation of patients.
Organizational Skills: Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and work efficiently in a fast-paced surgical environment.
Availability: No on-call duty is required.
