SUMMARY:

Assist occupational therapists in providing occupational therapy treatments and procedures. May in accordance with State Laws, assist in development of treatment plans and carry out routine functions, direct activity programs, and document progress of treatments, generally requires formal training.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Responsibilities to Resident/Patient/Clients

  • Instruct or assist in instructing, residents/patients/clients and families with basic living skills and the care and use of adaptive equipment
  • Evaluate the daily living skills and capabilities of physically developmentally, or emotionally disabled residents/patients/clients
  • Report to supervisors, verbally or in writing, on residents/patients/clients progress, attitudes and behavior
  • Alter treatment programs to obtain better results if treatment is not having the intended effect
  • Work under the general direction and supervision of occupational therapists according to the AOTA and the Montana State Law in order to plan, implement and administer educational, vocational and recreations, programs that restore and enhance performance in individuals with functional impairments
  • Design fabricate and repair assistive devises and make adaptive changes to equipment and environments
  • Implement or assist occupational therapist with implementing, treatment plans designed to help clients function independently
  • Monitor residents/patients/clients performance in therapy activities, providing encouragement
  • Select therapy activities to fit residents/patients/clients needs and capabilities
  • Maintain and promote a positive attitude toward residents/patients/clients and their treatment programs


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Record Keeping/Training Opportunities

  • Complete and maintain necessary records
  • Evaluate resident/outpatient progress and prepare reports that detail progress
  • Provide training and supervision in therapy techniques, and objectives for nursing and non-nursing staff within the facility
  • Advise on health risks in the workplace


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Safety

  • Obeys safety rules of St. John’s United
  • Identifies, reports, and/or corrects obvious safety hazards
  • Attends mandatory safety in-services

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Requirements: Must be a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant in the State of Montana with one to two years related experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Requires moderate physical work more than 50% of the time, including lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing, pulling, carrying, walking, and bending for prolonged periods of time.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work involves some exposure to hazards, blood borne pathogens, or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Normal health care environment.
  • Work involves exposure to plants and animals within the environment.
