Position Purpose: The Medical Scribe / Medical Assistant plays a critical role in supporting healthcare professionals by accurately documenting physician-patient interactions, notes, plan of care and assisting with various clerical tasks related to medical documentation. This position will also perform Medical Assistant duties within the regulatory scope of practice, performing routine patient care procedures, technical and supportive functions in the provision of direct patient care. The Medical Scribe/Medical Assist will work closely with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure accurate and efficient medical recordkeeping, as well as perform essential medical assistant duties.

Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Accompany physicians during patient examinations and procedures.
  2. Accurately transcribe and document all aspects of the patient encounter, including medical history, physical examination findings, treatment plans, and diagnostic test results.
  3. Record patient information in an electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  4. Ensure clarity, accuracy, and completeness of medical records.
  5. Manage and organize patient records, ensuring proper filing and easy accessibility.
  6. Assist with maintaining an efficient and organized medical office.
  7. Schedule patient appointments, tests, and procedures as required.
  8. Handle patient inquiries, both in person and over the phone, in a courteous and professional manner.
  9. Process incoming and outgoing medical correspondence.
  10. Performs routine (noninvasive) patient care functions as prescribed by licensed health care personnel following established clinic policies and procedures within defined scope of education, training and responsibilities
  11. Collects and records patient data including height, weight, BMI, temperature, pulse, respiration rate and blood pressure, pulse oximeter, and peak flow measurement. according to established policies and procedures
  12. Collects urine, sputum and stool specimens by noninvasive techniques,
  13. Performs lab tests, including finger sticks, after appropriate training and verification of competency,
  14. Prepare examination rooms for patient visits, ensuring cleanliness and availability of necessary supplies.
  15. Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and height/weight as required.
  16. Assist healthcare providers with minor medical procedures and treatments.
  17. Administer medications as directed and ensure proper documentation.
  18. Perform venipuncture for blood draws or other specimen collections.
  19. Assist with patient education, explaining procedures, medications, and post-visit care instructions.
  20. Sterilize and maintain medical equipment, as well as ensure compliance with infection control protocols.
  21. Adhere to strict patient confidentiality and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.
  22. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  1. Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant school with a current MA certificate.
  2. Current BLS certificate from the American Heart Association
  3. High school diploma or equivalent.
  4. 2 years’ experience as a medical scribe and medical assistant is preferred.
  5. Proficiency in using electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
  6. Strong knowledge of medical terminology and medical coding.
  7. Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills.
  8. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  9. Detail-oriented with high accuracy in data entry.
  10. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  11. Excellent customer service-compassion, empathy, and professionalism in patient interactions.
  12. Ability to organize and track multiple records and requests and follow through in a timely manner.
  13. Knowledge and skill in using various computer programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook email.
  14. Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
