ALZHEIMER’S UNIT DIRECTOR – Full-Time – Generations at Rock Island
Generations at Rock Island has an immediate opening for an Alzheimer’s Unit Director at our facility in Rock Island, Illinois. The position available is Full-Time (Exempt) with an 8-hour shift.
This position requires a college degree in social science or nursing; knowledge of the Alzheimer's Disease and related disorders; willingness to attend training or continuing ed. Also, experience doing assessments, documentation and care planning. Active member of the Alzheimer's Association is a definite plus. And, we seek someone with experience managing and training staff.

Responsibilities of the Alzheimer’s Unit Director:
The Alzheimer’s Unit Director will provide leadership in positioning the program and resources within the facility and surrounding community for persons with Alzheimer’s Disease or related disorders. In addition:
- Direct and review written policies and procedures that support the Unit’s mission statement
- Ensure that personnel, families, visitors and attending physicians follow established policies and procedures
- Train all new facility employees concerning safety and support of residents and appropriate distraction/redirection techniques
- Provide facility-wide education and in-services on Alzheimer’s Disease and related disorders for staff and families
- Meet with families during Unit inquiries and assist the Director of Admissions giving tours and information about the Unit as well as the disease process
- Complete assessments for prospective residents prior to admission
- Follow up with all residents hospitalized for more than 48 hours
- Be available to families and staff when a resident crisis or death has occurred
- Collaborate daily with Director of Nursing and Administrator regarding staffing, programming, and residents’ care
- Complete MDS, RAP, Progress Notes and Quarterlies as necessary, and oversee the daily activity attendance sheets

Alzheimer’s Unit Director:
- Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Social Sciences; Nursing licensure is acceptable
- Discharge Planning experience
- Experience in a Long-Term Care facility
- Knowledge of Alzheimer’s Disease and related disorders
- Must have experience in assessments, completing documentation, and care planning
- Staff management experience
- Able to facilitate educational forums on Alzheimer’s Disease and related disorders for the facility and family
- Excellent communication and relationship building skills
- Must be patient, compassionate and flexible
