Job DescriptionJob DescriptionSummary:  The Family Support Specialist is responsible for working collaboratively with the entire team to ensure a high-fidelity implementation of youth and family support services as described in the approved proposal and contract awarded by the OJJDP Youth Resiliency Project to Support Children Exposed to Violence/Family and Youth Success grant (OJJDP).  The scope of work is described in the OJJDP grant. Changes may be made to projects or individual goals and expectations for employees based on agency/management strategic goals. All Center for Children team members is expected to be collegial and collaborative, mutually supportive, and focused on excellent services to clients, fidelity to program models, and ethical provision of services.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Maintain high levels of customer service, with attention to nurturing and building relationships with clients seeking services.
  2. Ensure detailed knowledge of approved grants, contracts, requirements of the funders, and target populations.
  3. Participate in the Performance and Quality Improvement processes ensuring services are being delivered with fidelity to model and contractual/licensing obligations.
  4. Adhere to accreditation standards (as developed), licensing standards, and other policies/regulations.
  5. As individual talents and expertise dictate, take the initiative to participate in developing/providing ongoing staff training.
  6. Must be/become an expert in all required therapeutic/educational modalities utilized by the team and/or specified in the grants.
  7. Conduct outreach and education activities as defined in the OJJDP proposal narrative.
  8. Conduct group activities using the WhyTry and Parent Cafes curricula for children, youth, and families.
  9. Conduct screening, enrollment, assessment, referrals, etc., paperwork, and document all services provided.
  10. Actively build relationships across agency teams and with community partners as needed to generate targeted clients for the OJJDP grant, including youth served by any and all agency programs and those identified or referred by external sources. 
  11. Assist with overseeing the overall implementation of the grant requirements, including monitoring activities of proposed sub-recipient, service delivery, coordination, preparation of reports for funders, etc.
  12. Participate in all quality assurance systems and processes.
  13. Provide required data on performance metrics on both grants to the supervisor as needed/requested.
  14. Be part of the team problem-solving process to overcome any barriers to counseling/program success.
  15. As with most at the agency, this role requires flexibility in scheduling and when/where clients are seen for services.
  16. Develop personal skills to carry out each program’s goals. 
  17. Ensure timely and accurate completion of all required paperwork regarding services and program activities to support accurate billing, excellent client services, and data management.
  18. Make appropriate referrals to community resources and seek resources to support program and families.
  19. Provide crisis intervention to youth and families as needed.
  20. Participate in training, events, and activities.
  21. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Skills
  • Knowledge of the OJJDP project.

Qualifications
Minimum qualifications for this position include:
  • Must have at least a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a human services, criminal justice, behavioral health, child development, or related field.
  • Must have at least 3 years of counseling/teaching/case management or closely related direct services experience.
  • If not trained in WhyTry curriculum or Be Strong Families Parent Café service provision, must complete training within first quarter of the grant cycle – or as quickly as available from the developers or an approved trainer of trainers.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish and English is preferred.
  • Exceptional computer skills, including proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite of business applications: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Good time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate effectively with individuals from all walks of life virtually and in-person.
  • Must have driver’s license, vehicle in safe operating condition, and maintain proof of current insurance at Texas minimum standards.
  • Must be able and willing to travel (by air) for trainings/meetings/conferences.
  • Must be able to walk, sit, stand, and lift and carry at least 25 pounds.

Every program at the Center is community and client-centric. Working with diverse partners to meet the needs of families in our community demands flexibility. The scope of work is subject to change based on the team’s performance and the funder’s expectations and on agency/management strategic goals.  The flexibility needed in this role includes scheduling of meetings/events/activities, scheduling supervision sessions with staff, training, staff meetings, and out-of-town travel for training and/or grant requirements.
