Summary:

The Child Mind Institute is seeking a Research Coordinator to join the Healthy Brain Network (HBN) research team. The HBN is a community based research initiative aimed at collecting imaging, genetic, and phenotypic data from 10,000 children and adolescents ages 5-21 throughout NYC. All participants who complete the study receive a no-cost, diagnostic mental health and learning evaluation that includes cognitive, academic, and language assessments.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, HBN this is a non-exempt, full-time position based at the HBN Harlem research center. This position operates at the center of cross-functional research and clinical initiatives, including assisting with development and implementation of project plans, new data collection efforts, and quality control methodologies. The Research Coordinator provides oversight of daily data collection, ensuring that the research activities are conducted according to the study protocol, IRB requirements, and applicable regulations. Occasionally, the Coordinator must run study visits with research subjects and their guardians, as well as address guardians’ questions and/or concerns. The Research Coordinator will supervise all research assistants at the study’s data collection centers.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure site personnel are fully trained on the execution of the study procedures and policies related to human research participant protection and confidentiality.
  • Assist with the implementation of new research and clinical protocols within HBN.
  • Supervise all Research Assistants at the data collection center, including scheduling and overseeing their work duties and conducting performance management tasks (trainings, performance reviews, disciplinary action, etc.).
  • Manage the screening and interview process to hire new staff.
  • Provide reports on participant recruitment and enrollment activities and progress to study leadership on a regular basis.
  • Maintain effective communication with the study leadership and internal and external collaborators.
  • Monitor the performance of the informed consent process with participants.
  • Assist in the development of data collection and tracking tools.
  • Schedule and/or coordinate participant visits and test procedures.
  • Lead weekly and monthly team meetings.
  • Maintain an adequate and up-to-date inventory of study supplies.
  • Retains all study records in accordance with applicable IRB policies.
  • Report unanticipated problems and protocol deviations to study leadership. Assist in the preparation of reporting requirements related to unanticipated problems and protocol deviations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology or related field with a minimum of two years of clinical research experience.
  • Minimum one year of supervisory experience required.
  • Must have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the regulations pertaining to human subject protection, Good Clinical Practice and other clinical research guidelines.
  • The candidate must be willing to work onsite with research participants and their guardians.
  • Demonstrated leadership, critical thinking and organizational skills, ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to provide participants and their families with compassionate and efficient support throughout their experience with HBN.
  • Ability to work as a member of a dynamic team as well as independently.
  • Minimum one year programming experience (in school or professionally) with one or more languages (Python, R) preferred.
  • Proficiency in Spanish a plus.
