Wilmington College (WC) is a private, career-oriented liberal arts institution located in southwest Ohio, affiliated with the Religious Society of Friends also known as the Quakers. Our main campus is in southwest Ohio, between the metropolitan areas of Cincinnati, Dayton, and Columbus.


Wilmington College invites applications for a full-time (9-month), non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice. The ideal start date for this position is January of 2025, but could begin August of 2025. We are seeking candidates who will work collegially and effectively with faculty, students, staff, administrative colleagues, alumni, and professional communities served by the Social Science Area. The Criminal Justice major is among the most popular at the College and is the largest major within the Social Science Area. The Social Science Area includes Psychology, Criminal Justice, Political Science, Public Health, and Social Work.


Essential functions:

  • Teach a variety of undergraduate courses in Criminal Justice (e.g., Introduction to Criminal Justice; Juvenile Justice; American Courts; Race and Crime). Teaching assignments typically include a 3/3 course load.
  • Engage in academic advising of students.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to maintain the rigor of the program while incorporating continuous program improvement.
  • Participate in program assessment.
  • Engage in scholarly activity.
  • Provide service to the department, the college, the community and the profession.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Terminal degree in criminal justice, criminology, sociology, or a justice-related discipline from a regionally accredited institution is preferred, but applicants who are ABD/in-process will be considered.
  • Experience teaching in higher educational settings.
  • Evidence of ability and commitment toward diversity, equity, social justice, and inclusion.
  • Evidence of excellent interpersonal communication skills.

Desired characteristics include:

  • A commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching in a career-oriented liberal arts setting
  • Experience with building partnerships with members of local law enforcement, legal, court, and social justice communities
